George Monbiot, who consistently extends the risk to actually speak the truth about the environment, and specifically the political and financial obstacles that block change, just wrote this article. Don’t Look Now

Monbiot is bemused that we talk of climate change in such benign terms, when in fact we should be talking about climate breakdown or in my sounds climactic breaks.

George Monbiot writes that “The media avoids the subject of climate breakdown – to do otherwise is to bring the entire infrastructure of thought crashing down.

Batman hitting the earth, oil oozing out, climate destruction

Batman: Hitting the earth up like a Piñata, for profit.  In this case petroleum, with the resultant climate destruction.

The What The Health documentary film is about the collusion of industries in their misinformation of the public about diet and health, due to profit motives. The industries which use the land’s resources precipitously to maintain the beef, pork and dairy industries, are in fact the same industries which sponsor various American government health organizations, who subsequently toe the line of their sponsors, and withhold the truth. Instead they tout that beef and dairy are good, that there’s no conclusive evidence that diet has AnYThinG to do with health and dis ease, when in fact what you eat has EveRyThinG to do with health of humans, the obvious inhumane and devastating toll on the livestock and the health of the planet’s ecosystems and climate.

What The Health, documentary film, collusion of corporate profits with misinformation, diet and health

Here’s the trailer of the “What The Health” documentary with English Subtitles. Wow, are the filmmakers ever clearly laying out the truth! Medical Symbol, Caduceus

Medical Symbol Caduceus

It appears that a number of the top go-to organizations in the United States whose goal is to eradicate the population’s biggest medical threats – cancer and diabetes – are not following the Hippocratic Oath “In its original form, it requires a new physician to swear, by a number of healing gods, to uphold specific ethical standards.” Rather, they appear to be swayed by ‘corpocrisy’ (my made-up word combining corporate and hypocrisy).
I hadn’t included among the top medical threats ‘climate destruction’, of which the actions of the meat, fish, petroleum and pharmaceutical industries are antecedent and causal, with clear subsequent deleterious results.

hypocrisy definition, pretense of having a virtuous character or moral principles

As revealed from What the Health, The sponsors of the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association are the meat and dairy as well as pharmaceutical industries. Their message promotes misinformation about food and diet. Rather than finding the cause of the diseases they purport they wish to cure,  they are towing the line of their sponsors. In our consumer oriented capitalism paradigm where corporate profit-driven motives rule, buying = profit. Consumer purchasing is the motif which bleeds of hypocrisy. As What the Health discloses, the biggest sponsors of several American health organizations are the very industries that most impact the climate, and the health of population. These meat and dairy industries sway their message dramatically away from the truth about diet, with the intent to mislead the public.

The sponsors of the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association are the meat and dairy as well as pharmaceutical industries. Their message promotes misinformation about food and diet, for profit motives rather than finding the cause of the disease and curing it.

The What The Health documentary drives at how an entire population is mislead, by the health organizations themselves, in collusion with the government and the meat and derry industries. The filmmakers in their relentless research, ultimately uncover that the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association promote ‘diets’ on their websites which feature the very foods that cause the diseases which they purport their aim is to cure. As they press further, they discover that the biggest sponsors for these top government health agencies are the industries selling the food, that causes the very illness they aim to study. And the recipes they display on their websites espouse what will profit their sponsors.

The role of the pharmaceutical industry, which reaps in trillions of dollars, is not to eradicate or prevent the illness, but to treat the symptoms with and endless cocktail of pills. These little fixes keep the patients’ sick enough, to continue to adhere to taking their prescribed medications.

The messages of the medical societies who toe the line of their sponsors, the – meat, derry and pharmaceutical industries – assure continued profits for doctors, the healthcare profession, hospitals and the cattle, pig, fish and agricultural industries which support these as well as the pharmaceutical companies who bank on illness, not health.

Among the facts the film discloses, is the risks of processed meat and further on dairy, linked to cancer and diabetes.

Processed Meat direct link to increasing risk of colorectal Cancer

Processed Meat has direct link to increasing risk of colorectal Cancer

The film is a sequel to “Cowspiracy”, which was created by the same people; filmmaker Kip Andersen and videographer Keegan Kuhn. With the backing of producer Joaquin Phoenix, this documentary allows the viewer to penetrate a number of degrees further into the looking glass.

Cowspiracy points out the caustic environmental effects of the agricultural feedstock, livestock and dairy industries. “The amount of water, land and fuel used for differing diets varies greatly…Taking into consideration that 1lb of beef requires upwards of 2500 gallons of water to produce compared to only 25 gallons for 1lb of wheat, the water footprint of a person consuming a high meat diet could be 100x greater than that of a person consuming only plant foods.”

conspiracy definition

We’ve perhaps overused the word conspiracy to the point that it becomes a benign term referring to ideas that should be dismissed because they are awash in backwash and hogwash. However, when looking at its true definition, conspiracy refers to a “treacherous or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons”.

People who are not doing what they say, or saying what they mean.

A number of years ago I jumped out of my seat with excitement when an in-depth news reporting tv show “60 Minutes”, featured a story about Tulane University as the first medical school in the United States to offer mandatory cooking classes for first year medical students. Recognizing that good nutrition and diet is absolutely relevant to health, they figured that teaching medical students about food, nutrition and cooking, will allow them to authentically educate and inform their patients.

Former Vice President Al Gore attempted to educate the public 20 + years ago with his documentary entitled the Inconvenient Truth. Post the COP21 in Paris and attempts to reach an accord about the Climate, he released more recently, An Inconvenient Sequel.

His sequel just came out.

Many, many social, environmental and political activist groups along with world environmental and animal organizations continually use their talents and research to inform the public. What we need now are a buildup of CCC’s, Climate Crisis Cooperatives. People working together in all different capacities to grow local, buy local, and work towards renewable energy and transport.

Changing one’s diet away from ingesting meat and dairy with its inherent carcinogenic properties, can effectively reduce weight, diminish fat levels in the blood (lower cholesterol) and give people the chance to reduce to completely alleviate the need to take any pill at all.

Tulane University proactively paved the path of culinary medicine, “Scalpel or spatula? Medical students have new required cooking course

The subject of Culinary Medicine has since been evolving.

Other schools have since followed. Culinary Medicine: Teaching the importance of nutrition in medical school Wow, this is an article about Penn State University jointly with the Hershey Medical Center, which are in the vicinity of my home town in Pennsylvania, cool.

As mentioned in a former blog, https://digesthis.wordpress.com/2015/10/27/health-stretching-exercising-the-body-and-mind-farmacy/, a medical doctor, Dr. Weiss, stopped his practice to create a ‘farmacy’ cooperative in the state of New Jersey.

Dr. Weiss Ethos Health Farmacy

In other words, the healthiest way to go by far, is to eat a vegetarian, and particularly vegan diet (meat minus dairy). This in itself will clear up a person’s ‘system’ so that they go to the source of the problem (the inflammation coming from eating the wrong stuff (meat and dairy) and then not having to take a cocktail of pills, which never go after the source, but sort of stabilize the illness, and payments, indefinitely.

The best advice that keeps reappearing, is to continue to think globally and act locally. The more people use their own hands, words and mouths to grow locally and buy locally, and educate themselves through actively engaging in experimental actions and changing their diets and habits towards healthy ones, the more we will adaptively change our lives to exist in harmony with our earth and its creatures.

“A new study on climate mitigation examines how different lifestyle choices can reduce personal greenhouse gas emissions and help contribute to the systemic change needed to keep global average temperatures below 2 degrees Celsius. The most effective way to cut carbon emissions, according to the researchers, will come as no surprise to Pop X readers: Have fewer children. Also near the top of the list are reducing meat and dairy consumption, switching to clean energy and minimizing carbon-intensive travel by avoiding long flights and ditching your gas-guzzler in favor of walking, biking and public transportation.”

Emotionally Stunning video ‘Canuck & I’ Explores the Bond Between A Crow and His Human

I found this video through one of the Facebook groups which I hold sacred ‘The More Beautiful World’.

Canuck and I, Bond between Crow and Human, Audubon

Canuck and I Bond between Crow and Human Audubon

‘Canuck & I’ Explores the Bond Between A Crow and His Human

Now I know why I chose to make another espresso and stay ‘home’ to watch this, prior to going out with my laptop to visit some places, print new cards, sit in a cafe to work on my book and new music.

It’s because I mentioned on Facebook when posting this that I already had tears in my eyes before knowing anything about it, and well, I had tears flowing down my face the entire 20 minutes.

My mother would easily tear up expressing emotion. I simply love animals so much. There is such a vast universe, well, in this case, planet filled with fish and mammals in the seas and animals and birds from tropical forests to deserts.

Humans can be so much more. Our lives can be enriched so, so much more by opening them moment to moment and valuing all of the creatures that we share this planet with, ALIVE.

Hopefully sharing this video will bring warmth, loving feelings, compassion and a desire to protect the habitats of the magnificent species with whom we share this planet.

Walk more, bicycle more, have less children, aim for education to share empowering stories more and buy and consume less. Living healthier and happier lives by living more simply and feeling gratitude and authentic joy from doing things that empower ourselves and one another, will reduce the dependence on needing more money, pharmaceutical companies, insurance and automobile manufacturers, psychiatrists, and help to alleviate addictions… 🙂

Relocate rather than Vacate | Trump is the Mere Nefarious figurehead of a Vile Oil Oligarchic System

Pardon the haste and perhaps haphazardness with which I’m posting this blog. I still have packing to do. I am flying tomorrow, Sunday the 9th of July from nYc to Paris. My intention is not to vacate, but to relocate. Not to vacation in Paris, but to plant myself in an inexpensive post in Europe, in order to write articles about a number of different topics that will take me to different countries. I also wish to debut performing my music live as i continue to produce more. I have been considering ways for the past two years to plant myself back in Europe. Yes, It takes mega fossil fuels to get myself there, but I literally bicycled hundreds of miles throughout this past winter to transport myself to dozens of schools throughout the Santa Fe, New Mexico county school district, to teach students K through 12th grade in all different subjects. I was one of the only people bicycling. I saw a couple schools where several teachers bicycled. These were an exception.

I just watched a video of Indigenous people from the Pacific Islands visiting Indigenous people in Canada, to see for themselves the destruction of their territory and to express solidarity. I was in tears. I am sharing this here, because the words of one of the elderly native women in her prayers, echoes what I’ve heard from different people in different places; The change that needs to happen, is not on an intellectual level, but from the perspective of heart, feeling, values. Incentive to make changes will happen when people really care about, feel harmony with and identity with all of life, all entities that sustain life, as one incredible intelligent interconnected system that reveals and produces life

Impact of Tar Sands is felt worldwide, 350.org

Impact of Tar Sands is felt worldwide presented by 350.org

I am in tears as I watch this. I had gone to the COP21 in Paris. My real learning experience was through engaging during the two week duration of the climate talks with the http://www.placetob.org. I met people who came from the other side of the world to talk about how their communities have already been affected for the last decade by GLOBAL WARMING (the politically incorrect term which puts in your face the face the fact that the CLIMATE IS CHANGING DUE TO HUMAN ACTION AND INACTION)

This woman elder conducting a prayer said. “The indigenous people have a sacred connection to the water and land. They understand that when you take from the land, you must return.

We all have to feel this way in our hearts, to love our water and land and air, and all of the creatures who are part of this earth.

We can’t just sit idle any more and let the billionaires do what they want.

We need to fight for clean air and water and land.

I’m going to warrior up, to do anything i can to protect this water and land.

Kinder Morgen (Kinder Morgan according to wiki is the largest energy infrastructure company in North America), are killing the fish, killing the deer, killing the bear.

If Trudeau (and Trump) won’t take action, people will.”

So, my point, Trump is an easy target to feel disgust and revulsion by his desire to strip away healthcare, rights, protections for national parks….but he is merely a puppet, a figurehead, behind a system that has been bulldozing the environment and peoples’ rights and profiting through racism and targeting blacks, for the last 20 years.

My idea, after having spent last winter completely immersed in work that took all of my time, but through which I learned very much and thoroughly enjoyed in particular teaching skiing on the weekends and several long holidays, because I love physical activity, love the alpine environment, love to ski and love to communicate and teach people who really want to learn.

It was because of a memorial ceremony held for my mother this last Saturday which brought a bunch of extended family together to celebrate her life, that bounced me back to the East coast from Taos, New Mexico, where I was residing the last two months. Because my job seasons’ both ended in Santa Fe, I moved to Taos at the suggestion of a friend, where I lived in a yurt, off the grid, no plumbing or electricity, and then was given the opportunity to use a room in my friend’s home to use for electricity and internet “IF and only if, I used this space to complete my book”. I diligently did this, dove into it, which not only has brought this project to near completion, and fueled my desire and conviction to dive into other writing projects. I’ve been blogging for years, making no income. Now, I will dive into writing articles (have already several lined up), and will through the stages of learning and making mistakes, begin operating in the world of journalism.

India planted 66 Million trees in 12 hours

India planted 66 Million trees in 12 hours

ANYTHING can be accomplished, when power hungry control & greed don’t get in the way of people working together.

To me, nothing is more important than impressing upon people hope about the future, ways that we can joyfully participate in making our earth a more nourishing place and to spread a sentiment of love and caring for all of the inhabitants of the earth, and the soil, the water and air as living beings, that are an inextricable part of all of us.

We have so much more life to live, experiences to feel and share, if we stretch and extend ourselves to sense deeply how fantastic our world is, and how to really value the most minute experience of “I and thou”. I’m talking, your perception, and a rain drop in a puddle that sends out waves. I’m saying, your perception, of wind moving through trees. I’m saying, your perception, of your breath and how incredibly intelligent and splendid your body is.

Get back into your body. Get back into letting thoughts go and actually listening and tuning into a creature that can fit on your hand. Get back into walking, bicycling and moving your body, and feeling how wonderful it is to be in good shape and connected. Get back into extending a smile to a stranger, and feeling how this ripples. Our earth is magical. The creatures with whom we coexist are splendid. I am sorry to say, that it is not the people, but leaders, particularly in the “United States of Anxiety” who wish to keep things the way they are, who wish to bend over to money. Sadly, even Justin Trudeau of Canada is demonstrating this. The reason I wished to write this in the first place was because of something I relayed to my friend with whom I’ve been staying for the last week out of her graciousness. I was saying that it is easy to be disgusted, embarrassed and absolutely revolted by the personality of our President Trump, because of his mannerisms, statements, actions the greed, narcissism…Yet I learned 3 months ago when I was hitchhiking back from skiing a day in Taos to Santa Fe, from the driver. I had turned down the 1st 3 rides. This man was articulate, well educated and kind. He said he was a climatologist who worked for 10 years for the State of California. To my astonishment, he mentioned that in the early 90’s, like 1991, he was told/dissuaded/warned by the State (the alleged progressive state of California) NOT to use the word ‘climate change’ and probably at that time ‘global warming’ was the term, in ANY of his reports. When in fact, his research pointed directly to climate change as a result of actions of the petroleum industries. And now the people need to stand up and face the reality, and organize behind those groups who can facilitate change.

Marketing my own eBook > Thinking it appropriate as an auxiliary learning tool for Charter High Schools

I believe this eBook will build enthusiasm and intrigue for multiple subjects, It is a science reference book, cloaked in a science fantasy adventure; replete with real science and resplendent illustrations; with graphs, charts and links for further investigation.

Entitled,“Adora & Vitali: A Spin on the Matter of Motion”, it is best suited for high school students and accelerated middle schoolers. I believe it will entice kids to learn about a multitude of different subjects, augment the schools academic curriculum.

Here’ s the trailer: https://spinonmatter.carbonmade.com/projects/4800092

Adora & Vitali: A Spin on the Matter of Motion

Adora & Vitali: A Spin on the Matter of Motion

I just decided to post this letter of introduction which I’m sending to Charter Schools, to each of my blogs, since perhaps someone who’s involved in education, eBook marketing and publishing, with an affiliation with Charter Schools or knows-how in marketing an educational eBook, to provide me with advice or send someone my way!

It’s not finished, but I thought I’d start with the back-end, or front-end, getting it out there.

…I’m looking for the appropriate person/department (academic materials, material acquisition) to market my eBook, which I believe will be of interest to students as an auxiliary learning tool.

This science fantasy adventure involves a spiritual quest (no religious affiliation), full of art and science. The adventure involves the quest of a young woman and the characters she meets in her journey, into an upside-down world. Not really upside down, but a place affected by electromagnetism that has lower gravity levels as one climbs to this place. The people there, where the main character is journeying to, have a correspondingly intrinsic capacity of transparent thought. They are conscious of each others’ thoughts and consequently incapable of telling lies. Yet most of the story takes place as Adora journeys there – as there could be sequels!

Frankly, as of June 1st (almost two weeks since posting this), after editing and moving around information as well as researching and editing bibliography sources, the information below has been updated, and still is no longer current! Nevertheless, you get the gist of the contents! I’ve been working hard within a strict time limit – a really good thing.

Here are the first two pages of the Table of Contents (subject to change) but giving you a gist of the contents.

1st page Table of Contents

1st page Table of Contents

2nd page Table of Contents

2nd page Table of Contents

The approximately 150 page eBook (Completion end of June, 2017), is designed to be read from beginning to end, or to be read in segments. Almost every page introduces a particular subject; including graphs, charts and links to further investigation of that topic. The online Table of Contents and Bibliography allow the reader to choose from various educational subjects, ranging from biology, climatology, and geography to physics, These scientific topics of inquiry are introduced as they arise in the story; with the inference that these hypothetical events in a fantastical environment, could actually transpire.

Here are a few pages of the bibliography, also subject to change. I’m using google docs in order to also alphabetize the bibliography by subject.

Bibliography created in google docs to feature alphabetical listing by subject.

Adora & Vitali: A Spin on the Matter of Motion has a plethora of art accompanying the science links, providing the reader with the capability to further investigate a topic. It is a colorful and refreshing learning tool for students and adults. The eBook is a stepping stone of intrigue for subsequent exploration into a multitude of scientific topics.

Emergence | Inevitability of Seeking the Kind Way | Love & Appreciation of All Life

“President Trump ordered a review in April that could open federally protected lands to mining, logging and drilling.” I was alerted through this video showing the lovely national monuments that are at risk. It is atrocious.

This concise video reveals that Trump is not only the first president to not establish a national park, but the first to repeal the laws protecting them. Yes, it is true that there are generations of families who have made their living through the oil and gas industry, yet that doesn’t by any means imply that there would not be a tremendous source of jobs through Research & Development, Transference of skills and work places in the creation of renewable energy jobs across the country. As I mentioned in a former blog how FDR Franklin D. Roosevelt’s enforced the WPA – Works Progress Administration – from the top down; creating massive jobs to rebuild the infrastructure of the USA…this could now be implemented in creating wave, wind, solar, biomass and other technologies helping to restore land, animals habitats, beauty and resource value of nature, along with education and smart transportation technologies…all to make the life for all more free, more equitable and of much better quality.

In the meantime, I see this reading the news, and I responded as I posted it with the most whimsical wishing of a utopian culture, where the goal is to live fully, live peacefully together with others and to embrace nature. The idea that we could actually change the status quo of the workweek and our habits of being enslaved to a consumer-driven culture, to actually free up our bodies and minds to be more conscious beings and for each to thrive doing what they love, is the utopian world I’m dreaming of.
When I read this, https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2017-03-13/kushners-set-to-get-400-million-from-chinese-on-marquee-tower I just let my sarcasm and wishful thinking flow.

Let’s just focus on making business deals and keep that wealth floating in the clouds, just on the finger tips of the family, not doing anything to better the quality of life of the people, down here. let’s think of only profit, after all, one needs to have, rather than counting, let me reverse this; you can only sit on one toilet at a time, so how much wealth does one person need to amass? Quality of life is the what and where, but mostly how one is feeding one’s own experience. I just overheard someone today saying, “Don’t ask Why, just ask How” We each have our unique set of circumstances, yet how you’re feeling as your strolling a path has much to do with your own accountability to yourself to create the best situation from the circumstances you’re in, and then to others to serve to help them to reach their own affinity with their lives. What about using capital to make an enormous transfer of research & development, purchasing, education and industrial transfer / cross-training to generate a huge amount of jobs for people in every state. Transferring skills and creating clean renewable energy, investing in transportation infrastructure towards clean cars (as a bicyclist one really knows first-hand what is delivered into the air of streets through idling cars and unmaintained gas guzzling automobiles and trucks), creating community gardens contributing to local groceries everywhere, giving more people work opportunities in the creation and implementation of new sustainable technologies: i.e. put minor legal offenses of prisoners into training in renewable and sustainable development and put the prison systems into the growing and animal rehabilitation and habitat preservation business; growing (plants for humans, not resource gouging cows and industrial farming). Dropping the standard workweek to 30 or less hours (reconnecting people to themselves, to their families and nature). Free the cows and pigs and turn them into marijuana growing operations, win/win; the farmers suddenly have a much more lucrative income and this issues an evolving conscious twist and choice to live together harmoniously with other life forms on the planet, and turn the earth into more of a garden than an industrial zone. just sayn’.

I bring up this previously written blog talking about Franklin D. Roosevelt’s remedy to fix a broken economy, and wrote about this back prior to President Obama’s second administration. The idea that many, many things could be set into motion, by a government who cares about the people and wants to set things on to a good course.

In the meantime, my brother-in-law sends me this article about India embracing solar power and moving at a quick pace to overcome reliance on petroleum energy. This just spells out what a community or country can do, if they aren’t blocked by a wall of greed.

And in the meantime, Elon Musk who co-founded PayPal, and continues his entrepreneurial spirit with numerous inventions, now has a ground breaking new one, a power wall, that acts as an active solar panel.

And more free energy http://mysteriousuniverse.org/2016/05/teen-channels-tesla-and-builds-free-energy-device/

Noam Chomsky: US Scandalous Healthcare symptomatic of populations’ failure to defend Democracy | Choice of disenfranchised masses to have blind faith in ruling elite

As the title suggests, in this interview and article by C.J. Polychroniou, Noam Chomsky unveils his expansive view of the United States.

truthout

truthout

http://www.truth-out.org/opinion/item/39064-noam-chomsky-the-us-health-system-is-an-international-scandal-and-aca-repeal-will-make-it-worse?tsk=adminpreview#disqus_thread

Chomsky claims that the rejection of healthcare and lack of a real labor presence is symbolic of the much larger issue in the United States > that people do not participate or defend democracy, but are willing puppets of a political realm ruled by a wealthy few, to whom the population simply does not oppose, but subjugate their passions and dreams to agree to the system dictated by a ruling class – who the population could overpower with their force, if they simply wished to stand up for their rights to represent and govern themselves.

I’ve basically excerpted the article, juggling it around a bit to put the most poignant parts from the conclusion – at the beginning – for those who have no time to read. Hence it’s a sort of ‘cliff notes’ version of the article.

And as I posted on Facebook regarding this Truthout article, thank you so much Noam Chomsky for being the expansive and insightful person whom you are!

“The US health care system has long been an international scandal, with about twice the per capita expenses of other wealthy (OECD) countries and relatively poor outcomes. The ACA did, however, bring improvements, including insurance for tens of millions of people who lacked it, banning of refusal of insurance for people with prior disabilities, and other gains — and also, it appears to have led to a reduction in the increase of health care costs, though that is hard to determine precisely.

Returning to your question, it raises a crucial question about American democracy: why isn’t the population “demanding” what it strongly prefers? Why is it allowing concentrated private capital to undermine necessities of life in the interests of profit and power?

….The question directs our attention to a profound democratic deficit in an atomized society, lacking the kind of popular associations and organizations that enable the public to participate in a meaningful way in determining the course of political, social and economic affairs. These would crucially include a strong and participatory labor movement and actual political parties growing from public deliberation and participation instead of the elite-run candidate-producing groups that pass for political parties. What remains is a depoliticized society in which a majority of voters (barely half the population even in the super-hyped presidential elections, much less in others) are literally disenfranchised, in that their representatives disregard their preferences while effective decision-making lies largely in the hands of tiny concentrations of wealth and corporate power…

Turning finally to your question again, a rather general answer, which applies in its specific way to contemporary western democracies, was provided by David Hume over 250 years ago, in his classic study of the First Principles of Government. Hume found “nothing more surprising than to see the easiness with which the many are governed by the few; and to observe the implicit submission with which men resign their own sentiments and passions to those of their rulers. When we enquire by what means this wonder is brought about, we shall find, that as Force is always on the side of the governed, the governors have nothing to support them but opinion. `Tis therefore, on opinion only that government is founded; and this maxim extends to the most despotic and most military governments, as well as to the most free and most popular.”

Implicit submission is not imposed by laws of nature or political theory. It is a choice, at least in societies such as ours, which enjoys the legacy provided by the struggles of those who came before us. Here power is indeed “on the side of the governed,” if they organize and act to gain and exercise it. That holds for health care and for much else.”

The House of Representatives, dominated by Republicans (with a minority of voters), has voted over 50 times in the past six years to repeal or weaken Obamacare, but they have yet to come up with anything like a coherent alternative.

Comparison of the attitude toward elementary rights of labor and extraordinary rights of private power tells us a good deal about the nature of American society.

The expulsion or mass killing of Indigenous nations cleared the ground for the invading settlers, who had enormous resources and ample fertile lands at their disposal, and extraordinary security for reasons of geography and power. That led to the rise of a society of individual farmers, and also, thanks to slavery, substantial control of the product that fueled the industrial revolution: cotton, the foundation of manufacturing, banking, commerce, retail for both the US and Britain, and less directly, other European societies. Also relevant is the fact that the country has actually been at war for 500 years with little respite, a history that has created “the richest, most powerful¸ and ultimately most militarized nation in world history,” as scholar Walter Hixson has documented.

Administrative costs are far greater in the private component of the health care system than in Medicare, which itself suffers by having to work through the private system.

Comparisons with other countries reveal much more bureaucracy and higher administrative costs in the US privatized system than elsewhere. One study of the US and Canada a decade ago, by medical researcher Steffie Woolhandler and associates, found enormous disparities, and concluded that “Reducing U.S. administrative costs to Canadian levels would save at least $209 billion annually, enough to fund universal coverage.

Another anomalous feature of the US system is the law banning the government from negotiating drug prices, which leads to highly inflated prices in the US as compared with other countries. That effect is magnified considerably by the extreme patent rights accorded to the pharmaceutical industry in “trade agreements,” enabling monopoly profits. In a profit-driven system, there are also incentives for expensive treatments rather than preventive care, as strikingly in Cuba, with remarkably efficient and effective health care.”

On Positive Transformation to Health and Sustainability through Food Sovereignty | Ron Kinley’s TED talk: Guerrilla Gardening in South Central LA | Vandana Shiva Soil not Oil | Dahlia Wasfi MD on Monsanto’s Seed Terrorism in Iraq | Joe Brewer Working for Billionaires

Okay, well, my preceding blog featuring the over-the-top frightening and provocative wake-up call about human actions on the planet, needs to be answered and redirected to subjects spelling out hope, again and again. I have the tendency to veer towards economic issues and casting the blame towards the culprits, the 1% of course. Why do I feel that enough is enough? Because there’s a tendency among all of us to just feel powerless and sort of heading towards a crash, so that we become even more reckless. Say you are becoming late for an event, and there can become a point where you teeter towards not going at all, because of whatever story you’re telling yourself in your head. Or better analogy, since many people are weight conscious and become obsessed with what they shouldn’t be eating, and then wind up over-indulging big time, because once they’ve ‘broken their rule’ they say, what the hell and now after putting that diet off another day…the downward spiral may set in and feeling upset with oneself and powerless, now feeds a cycle of rationalization.

I often gravitate to talking about economics, bringing up the corpocrisy of capitalism. That’s why the article about “Making money for Billionaires” by Joe Brewer reverberates. Brewer’s punch line, “Will we honor the sacredness of life on Earth and evolve our global economy so that is in service of life? Or will we desecrate all that is sacred in this world so that a handful of families can have a few more yachts, a few more marble bath tubs, and bragging rights that they are the ones who died with the most toys?”

I don’t meant to scare people, though I may.

global land and sea temperatures 1.11C warmer in April 2016

Fact: Last month, April was the warmest on record. The Guardian features this article. “April breaks global temperature record, marking seven months of new highs”

Fact: Michael Slezak writes for the Guardian, “World’s carbon dioxide concentration teetering on the point of no return

Fact: The economics of the fossil fuel industry fuels climate change which disrupts peoples lives and impoverishing their connection to nature, as does the economic political system of capitalism which has effectively taken away peoples’ rights to sustainable living.

That’s why dozens of ecological and environmental awareness groups coordinated a world-wide two-week global wave of escalated action to keep coal, oil and gas in the ground. Break Free from Fossil Fuels – through investing physically in ways to avoid these fuels and replace them with others, as well as through divestment from schools, institutions and companies that use these.

-.-.-.-.–
WHAT WE CAN DO! Anyone who is conscious, is aware of the gist of our current reality. Yet perhaps not everyone realizes just how interconnected things are; the earth’s atmosphere and climate, the various species flickering out of existence, the state of human affairs, wellness and disease connected to diet and food growth, resources and how much is leveraged by economics and greed. Yes, you all have heard of the 1% and the 99%. You see on the news the ravages of war and greed.

I couldn’t get this blog out quickly enough for my own taste, except that it has left the exposé on the lies we live there resting further on my top page. Having attended the alternative climate talks coinciding with those among dignitaries in Paris during the same two weeks December 2015, one of the main themes among the various presentations by ecological evangelists, activists, journalists and environmental entrepreneurs, was the need to create a new story to portray the radically changing climate and the radically shifting needs and solutions, so that the message for change will not be disregarded through hopelessness or gloom, but presented as palpable alternatives that can be embraced; with refreshing new ways to approach the subject – in positive ways – that people can grasp and feel inspired by and inclined to act on. Sort of like presenting things in chewable bites that are savory and delicious rather than presenting something so ferociously unwieldy and ugly that the easiest reaction is simply to turn one’s back and pretend it isn’t there, like that homeless person you step around on your way to work in a metropolitan area from the car door to the office entrance.

On this note, I am going to be treating a number of alternative change measures that we all can embrace, over the next blogs.

This one is about the easiest and perhaps most overlooked means of creating change and controlling this through one’s own actions: the food you put in your mouth. As the founders of Collective Evolution state, change happens from within.

No better place to start, than what you put into your mouth, and how this food is grown.

Guerrilla gardening is actually an established concept; according to an entry in wikipedia: guerrilla gardening is the act of gardening on land that the gardeners do not have the legal rights to utilize, such as an abandoned site, an area that is not being cared for, or private property.

The 7 Spiritual Laws of Gardening,

Deepak Chopra Center 7 Spiritual Laws of Gardening by Leo Carver

As the author Leo Carver mentions in his article for the Chopra Center The 7 Spiritual Laws of Gardening “The wisdom traditions of the world often refer to the oneness and transcendence one feels when interacting with nature.”

There’s been an ongoing obstructionism of peoples’ food and farmers’ seeds going on in India, as witnessed through articles like this one, The Seeds Of Suicide: How Monsanto Destroys Farming

Vandana Shiva is an Indian scholar, environmental activist and anti-globalization author who has written more than 20 books. She’s a ferociously intelligent woman who brings her economic and political insights into her speeches, in which she eloquently articulates why things are the way they are, as dictated by the economic trends of the last half of the century in capitalism and corporate greed and globalization. I witnessed her speaking this last December in Paris as a panelist during the climate talks, orchestrated by the Place to B. She has worked to promote biodiversity in agriculture. “Central to Shiva’s work is the idea of seed freedom, or the rejection of corporate patents on seeds.” Much of her work has been on educating the public about food and agriculture, as in Vandana Shiva’s Speech on Food and Agriculture Systems
In it she mentions that “fertilizers, which are toxic and poisonous, were originally designed as weapons of war…and that 6,000 chemicals are unleashed every year by these companies. She casually points out as she’s describing the terrorism of Monsanto and it’s hijacking of the seeds of Indian farmers, that “this was earlier, this was before these companies controlled governments, research at universities and before they controlled the media.” Hearing her words reminded me of what I learned viewing multiple documentaries after the Wall Street financial collapse, where it was elucidated clearly how the world’s financial systems have infiltrated educational institutions, to be proponents and perpetuators of their own system.

She talks about Monsanto ‘We Must End Monsanto’s Colonization, Its Enslavement of Farmers

and food sovereignty as does Dahlia Wasfi MD, a physician, peace and environmental activist. Waif talks about Iraq, its occupation and the experiment of Monsanto with their own chemicals and the farmers of Iraq. Wasfi talks in this video about Iraq’s seed industry and its destruction by Monsanto, who forbid them (Iraqi farmers) after 2003 to maintain their seed bank and share their seeds. What happened in India is happening currently in Iraq, with respect to Monsanto’s occupation of farmer’s seeds.

I just discovered the site Salud America, reading that the Las Cruces, New Mexico city council members were meeting on May 23, 2016, to discuss plans for expanding the local agriculture and food environment through a comprehensive Urban Agriculture and Food Policy plan developed by local non-profit La Semilla Food Center (semilla=seed). That’s good news! I presume more of this awareness and activities around urban gardening are springing up in various states.

The Lie We Live – La Mentira Que Vivimos

Script for the film

In front of you, you have access to more information than any human in history. But you probably don’t care. That curiosity we once had in the world is gone.

Why is it the older we get, the less questions we ask? Throughout history we’ve always accepted whatever world we were born into. And if anyone tried to question our world, they were ridiculed. It’s only years later we look back and ask ourselves: how could anyone accept that world?

Today we call ourselves developed, as if we have nothing left to learn. But in a hundred years, when people look back at our generation, will they too ask themselves: how did anyone accept that world?

It’s no secret our world is full of problems. We rally, we protest, still the problems only seem to grow. And maybe, because they stem from a much larger problem we fail to see.

Why do we search the universe for new life, when we can’t even coexist with the life on our own planet? It’s as if we expect any life out there to be just like us. As if life can only be human. How is it in a world with millions of species we see ourselves as the only one that thinks, feels, or matters? It’s a reoccurring theme in our history, the belief that some life is inferior to others. We’ve always struggled to accept those unlike ourselves. To recognize because something’s different doesn’t mean it should be treated differently.

When we look at other life, we say our technology makes us more advanced. Yet all we seem to advance is the destruction of the world surrounding us. You look around and there’s little life to be seen. Most animals we know, we’ve only witnessed on screens.

It’s funny how we call them “animals” but ourselves “humans”. As if we’re two different life forms with nothing in common. We see them as beasts and ourselves as people.  Calling their actions barbaric, yet our actions tradition. But while they kill to survive, we kill even as we call ourselves civilized. And we don’t just kill; we raise life to be killed. Not because we need to. Because we like the taste, the look, the feeling. And when you see life as an object of value, it’s hard to see the value in life.

Why is it when some animals are killed it becomes a headline. But when others are murdered, we don’t blink an eye? Why are we enraged at the thought of a culture eating dogs? But laugh when another culture refuses to eat cows?

Our idea of normal may change depending where you are, but our desire to be normal has always been the same. It’s only when the norm changes that we criticize our former ways. Today we live in a nation where it’s normal to get cancer; to become obese; to develop heart disease. Clearly there’s something wrong with this way of life we call normal. But it’s all we’ve ever known.

For as long as we can remember we’ve eaten animals. Growing up we’re taught meat gives us protein and makes us strong.  Yet so do many foods we don’t need to kill for, but we’re not told that. We hardly hear about the numerous studies showing the diseases associated with meat. Or all the food and land we waste fattening the animals we eat. When you drink the breast milk of another animal your whole life it doesn’t seem odd. It just seems normal. After all, it’s what we’ve always done and we don’t question tradition. We embrace it. But if we never questioned the traditions of our past, we would never evolve.

I’m sick of this politically correct yet morally fucked world. A world where we’re afraid others will be offended by our words, but not that others will be affected by our actions. A world where everybody says they want a solution, but nobody’s willing to admit they’re the problem. The choices we make travel further than we think, but we choose to ignore the impact we have. There was a time I thought we could change. But as I get older I find myself asking, even if we could change, do we want to?

Perhaps this is simply who we are. From the beginning, we’ve been unable to coexist with other life on this planet. And no matter how far we’ve evolved, it’s a theme that lives on. If the story of our planet were a film, up to this point humans would be the villain. And like any great villain, we’ve always refused to see ourselves as the bad guy.

Each generation comes into this world thinking they can make things right, only to be remembered years later for what was wrong. Today we may have more information than any other generation. But what good are answers if we never begin to ask the right questions.

None of us chose to be born into this world. None of us chose who we would be. But all of us have the choice to change what we become.

Unbounded Spirit | Opposite of Addiction is Connection | Johann Hari “Chasing the Scream”

This short video “Drugs Don’t Cause Addiction” is one of the most profoundly accurate looks into our modern societal malaise and misguided notions about what is of value today. As the unbounded spirit acknowledges, “This Brilliant Animated Video Will Change Your View on Drugs Forever”, and I add, and Your View of Our Modern Society.

Addiction

Everything We Think we Know About Addiciton is Wrong

Obviously much thought went into it, as this video project is a collaboration with Johann Hari, the author of the book “Chasing the Scream”. It reveals that pointing the finger of blame to ‘drugs’ or ‘the war on drugs’ is actually completely missing the point.

"Chasing the Scream, Joann Hari

“Chasing the Scream” by Joann Hari – brilliant reviews

As is typical, the fingers are pointing in the opposite direction of the real problem. What we need to realize is that the real blame is our collective societal values of materialism over connection with others. As the western world has become more and more focused on material wealth and financial gain, this has been accompanied with increasing social isolation. The problem is not a drug, nor an individual addiction, but a collective one which has been driven by consumerism.

We need to rebuild our society towards values in which the individual derives happiness through accomplishments from actions in which he or she is engaged in which makes him/her happy and feel joy from emersion in that activity, and in which collectively we are sharing activities and experiencing joy through camaraderie and sympathy; recognizing that we are all living this life together and that only when all beings have peace, comfort and security can we all share in that joy.

Paraphrasing the video…

Addiction is just one symptom of the crisis of disconnection that is happening all around us.

People have an innate need to connect. When we’re happy and healthy we will bond with the people around us. Yet when we’re traumatized, isolated or beaten down by life, we will bond with something that will give us some sense of relief; such as:

Endlessly checking a cell phones

addiction to cell phones

addiction to cell phones

addiction to pornography

addiction to pornography

addiction to video games

addiction to video games

addiction to gambling

addiction to gambling

addiction to cocaine

addiction to cocaine – drugs in general

because…as the video elucidates, we will bond with something, because THIS is our human nature.

Since the 1950’s the average number of close friends an American has, has been steadily declining, whereas the amount of floorspace in their homes has been increasing. Choosing floorspace over close friends, stuff over connection.

The path out of unhealthy bonds, is to form healthy bonds; to be connected to people you want to be present with.

It’s not the chemicals, it’s your cage.

We need not talk about individual recovery from addiction, but must talk about social recovery.

We need to change the unnatural way that we live.

The opposite of addiction is not sobriety, the opposite of addiction is connection.

I recall a ‘waking dream I had decades ago. It was not while I was sleeping, but during the day. I was witnessing what has since been created, virtual reality, before it existed. In the dream I was climbing a mountain. I could feel the breeze. The ‘camera’ pulled out so that I was then seeing myself from above, then further away looking down at the earth. Then suddenly I was climbing out of a box, an isolation tank, in my living room. I then was disconnecting these wires from my scull. When I awoke from this engaging dream during the day while I was living in Washington D.C., I recall feeling very disturbed emotionally from the thought of having cheated myself by not ‘actually’ having the real experience of traveling to a mountain to summit, but was only alone in a box – the shell of the real experience. A few years later I was startled to watch a movie while I was traveling and visiting Europe called “Strange Dayshttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strange_Days_(film) because it was recapturing the essence of the mechanics of how this ‘virtual reality’ of my vision and virtual experience occurred.

Strange Days

1995 film Strange Days

I have since continued to feel this conviction (even though I’m sitting here ‘working’ and writing, creating and communicating in isolation on my MacBook Pro – and loving and needing this machine – so I think 🙂 That if we don’t maintain a balance, our technologies will continue to isolate us from ourselves and one another. I had hypothesized that primitive people perhaps had not lost our special connection to the cosmos. A friend then pointed out to investigate my theory by looking at the aborigines of Australia. They once consistently demonstrated telepathy and ultra human powers of consciousness. As modern man relies more and more on our gadgets to do things for us, our human powers of mind and heart and connection to one another and the universal intelligence will atrophy. I believe human beings do have capabilities of telepathy and of connection with the divine through allowing ourselves to quite our minds and engage our spirits and heart – our sixth sense or intuition or gut instincts – whatever you want to call it. Yet, if our thoughts are constantly engaged and busy worrying about the past and the future and what we don’t have and judging one another and watching sitcoms and shit, we don’t have the time or space to tap into what is available to us as spiritual beings on the material physical plane. yep, I said it. I always thought it. And I keep finding other human beings who also reiterate and reverberate the same message….

In addition to the fact that donations are always welcome and appreciated, I just discovered to day February 20th, 2016 patreon, which I am very happy to join and am about to create an artist profile. It is a very similar concept to something I conjectured a month or so ago: wishing there was an artist residency somewhere where the artists can collaborate if they choose, yet which is based on earning money for what they create. They are paid, as they commit to producing work. Well, patron is not a residency, yet it does offer capital, and I’m pretty stoked to have discovered it. Certainly it will act as a motivator for all artists, lighting a fire to keep them producing new work!!! I’ll sign on to patreon as a blogger/photographer/illustrator/author creating a profile tomorrow, and will be de light ed to find some patrons encouraging me to keep on producing work!
