Is increased Frequency of Autism linked to increased EM Frequencies of Cellular Phone Technology?

I wrote this blog a month ago, and just discovered May 28 this article published 2 weeks ago. It does not make the connection of the increasing power of cellular phone technology to autism; nevertheless, the 230 scientists are appealing to the World Health Organization (WHO) to call out the cell phone industry, calling 5G hazardousScientists Appeal that 5G Wireless is as Hazardous as Asbestos

In early April I was reading about John Robbins (Baskin & Robbins ice cream) and his unique history of fortune and misfortune, when I learned that his son Ocean has twins each diagnosed with autism. A flash of insight prompted me to google ‘autism connection with wifi or cellular frequencies’. This 2015 article appeared, The Emerging Link between Wireless and Autism. I have had only peripheral knowledge of the autism spectrum disorder. Wikipedia states that “Autism is a developmental disorder characterized by difficulties with social interaction and communication and by restricted and repetitive behavior.” It states that autism is associated with a combination of genetic and environmental factors, with no mention among the long list of potential causes of any association with the effects of EMF’s from wireless electromagnetic radiation. I posted the link, mentioning that one would have to view the statistics worldwide to assess whether there’s a correspondence between cases of autism and populations living in the proximity of cellular communications infrastructure and who have a higher use of electronic devices. Autism: Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatments “Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects a person’s ability to communicate, interact and behave appropriately with others in social situations. It is characterized by impairments in social skills, communication and restricted and repetitive behavior.”

It was a hunch. For all I knew, Autism was a peculiarly American phenomenon. The United States has a propensity to diagnose and pathologize ‘dis ease’. A half century ago, medical practices were made up of doctors with private practices. This almost seems to be a ghost of the past, as the healthcare industry has stepped in. The Healthcare and pharmaceutical industries appear to be intimately tied. That is, Big Pharma applies its business marketing to the public directly, by infiltrating print and air waves with advertising. And at the same time, it extends its tentacles into the medical industry by luring doctors in hospitals and group practices with gifts and enticements (dinners, conferences in exotic places) to sell their products. That’s sort of how the opiate addiction was unleashed and silently allowed to continue unconstrained. In the USA, large industries sort of overstep well, everyone else. They squeeze out smaller businesses or gobble them up. And they lobby and line the government’s coffers, who subsequently remain in abject silence. There are no rangers or anti-trust laws to keep them from becoming more and more powerful. Whose to stop them? In the case of Big Pharma, they treat symptoms with pharmaceuticals, rather than giving attention to the holistic, wider context, as one would think would be the medical intention and approach. The Healthcare industry and Pharma are each incentivized to make a profit, rather than to approach health and wellness proactively; with attention to nutrition, exercise and the wider context. They are not focused on wellness, but on selling their product. And rather than educating the public towards maintaining wellness, they advertise their products and cram into small print & speeded up talking, all of the potential ‘side-effects’ and negative repercussions of their chemical products. Their emphasis is on sales. I digress, yet the paradigm is the same.

The telecommunication industry leaders may be facilitating the same lack of disclosure, in order to maintain their bottom lines. Not interested in pointing out potentially negative repercussions of their wireless cellular systems, they are more motivated to implement their plans, to ensure that the public is completely ensnared in their system by convincing them that faster and more powerful communication is without exception, what the public wants and needs. I display the various edifices and fortresses of the cellular telecommunication industry leaders, to demonstrate their opulent wealth.

I almost felt a physical impact when I read that autism is huge in South Korea and Asia. I remember learning  a decade or two ago (to my surprise) that various Asian countries were much more sophisticated in their cell phone technology infrastructures than the United States.

Tech-savvy South Korea has nearly as many cell phones as people. A 2009 article! “There were 45.6 million mobile phone subscribers in South Korea in December in a country with a population of 48.6 million, Sung Suk-ham of the Korea Communications Commission said.”

Autism and EMF? Plausibility of a pathophysiological link – Part I. “Abstract
Although autism spectrum conditions (ASCs) are defined behaviorally, they also involve multileveled disturbances of underlying biology that find striking parallels in the physiological impacts of electromagnetic frequency and radiofrequency exposures (EMF/RFR). With dramatic increases in reported ASCs that are coincident in time with the deployment of wireless technologies, we need aggressive investigation of potential ASC – EMF/RFR links. ”

The Japanese mobile phone industry is one of the most advanced in the world. A study in Japan controlled for the factor of vaccinations, and yet Autism rises despite MMR ban in Japan Is it a coincidence?

“In Asia, the number of children registered as autistic is significantly higher in urban areas than rural. We don’t know if that is due to a lack of awareness of the option to seek services, or if, for environmental reasons, there truly are less autistic children in rural areas.” Could this infer that where there are less cell phone towers and cellular phone use, there are less cases of autism?

National research studies indicate that Japan and other developed Asian countries have the highest rates of autism.

As you can see above, Hong Kong is almost ‘off the charts’ in terms of its Autism epidemic.

Cell Phone Network Hong Kong

John Herman explains You live your life at 2.4 GHz in Wired that, “Most household items operate at 2.4 GHz. Your house or apartment, or the coffee shop you’re sitting in now, is saturated with radio waves. Inconceivable numbers of them, in fact, vibrating forth from radio stations, TV stations, cellular towers, and the universe itself, into the space you inhabit. Inside your home are a dozen tiny little radio stations: your router, internet, bluetooth, garagedoor opener, cordless phone – household items – all run on 2.4 GHz.”

map cell phone towers geoawesome

There are different frequencies for different purposes. For example, an AM/FM radio has a different frequency than satellite radio. In the same way, the frequencies of a cellular phone are different from Wi-Fi, and from Bluetooth. All cellular phone networks worldwide, use part of the radio frequency spectrum designated as UHF (Ultra-High Frequency) for the transmission and reception of signals. They are not radio signals in terms of being able to, or accidentally picking up on, a music station. This neatly shows distinctions, What is the difference between Wi-Fi and Cellular connections?

Do I Need to Worry About Radiation From WiFi and Bluetooth Devices? “The radiation from Bluetooth and WiFi devices falls into the same basic range on the electromagnetic spectrum—between FM radios and microwave ovens—as the RF waves from cell phones. But because the distances traveled by WiFi and Bluetooth signals tend to be much shorter (between your router and your laptop, for instance, or your smartphone and your wireless speaker) the RF can be transmitted at a much lower power than from a cell phone.

Since I use a computer laptop to write, create and communicate, often in spaces connected via WiFi, not by a cable, I wanted to familiarize myself with the distinction between WiFi and cellular networks. Understanding the Difference between WiFi, 3G and 4G “WiFi is the nickname for a wireless internet connection. WiFi technology provides wireless Internet access via the use of radio waves which transmit a signal to a wireless enabled device, equipped with a wireless network card that communicates with the wireless router. The radio waves operate on a frequency of 2.4 GHz and operate on a standard which is set forth by the IEEE which is the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.”

Wireless LAN (WLAN) LAN (Local Access Network) by definition, implies a shorter distance traveled by WiFi and Bluetooth signals, typically not reaching further than 100 feet. This introductory video Mobile Internet Basics: What is the Difference Between Wi-Fi and Cellular? explains that cellular networks have continued to evolve in strength to accommodate the demand for a faster flow of information.

Cell phone technology has gone from 1G, to 2G, 3G and now 4G (G for generation). What is the difference between 2G, 3G and 4G mobiles as well as networks? “In a nutshell > SPEED.” Each are more powerful than the predecessor. Thing is, the cell phone broadcast towers have a much wider range than WiFi and are sending out much more powerful transmissions from their source.

Michael Winter states in Cell Phones – Cell Towers – Haarp. An EMF Triple Threat “The measurement of a cell phone’s power is defined by Hertz. A hertz is a unit defining the frequency of an electromagnetic wave.”

“Human beings operate at 10 hertz. 100 hertz equal 1 kilohertz. 100 kilohertz equal 1 megahertz. The average EMF emitted by cell phones is 1900 megahertz, with a market shift toward (currently in use) 2500 megahertz phones.”

“Cell towers operate in Watts. A watt is a standard definition of a unit of power. a normal, round incandescent light bulb uses 40 to 100 watts, fluorescent bulbs produce the same amount of light using only five to 30 watts. A WiFi signal from any standard router is 20 milliwatts. A standard cell phone transmits 300 milliwatts. Consider also that radio station WLS in Chicago pumps out a formerly impressive 50,000 watts, and can be picked up over a 1000 miles away with a middling quality radio receiver. The average cell tower in the USA pumps out between 100,000 to 500,000 watts. The writer of this article questions why the towers are so enormously powerful.”

Essentially, we are being saturated 24/7 with many, many thousands times stronger radiation fields than our body is equipped to deal with. Our failure to deal with this onslaught is manifesting in the form of stress and sleep disorders, birth defects, cancer and Alzheimer’s. We are being silently culled, and footing the bill to make it happen! By paying your cell bill, you simply ensure the continuity of a product that is killing, and will kill, millions and millions of people.”

Published 2007 Wi-Fi linked to Childhood Autism cites a study published in the Australasian Journal of Clinical Environmental Medicine warning that wireless communication technology may be responsible for accelerating the rise in autism among children. “Autism is a disabling neuro-developmental disorder.” It is associated with heavy-metal toxicity. “An expert on the dangers of electromagnetic radiation (EMR):

In 2012, guest scientific blogger, Emily Willingham wrote, Is Autism an “Epidemic” or Are We Just Noticing More People Who Have It?, that perhaps it’s more a question of how it is diagnosed. There are factors influencing a country’s reporting, such as lack of disclosure due to it being stigmatized, or less sophisticated means of doing statistical analysis. She cites, “In 1951, Kanner wrote, the “great question” became whether or not to continue to roll autism into schizophrenia diagnoses, where it had been previously tucked away, or to consider it as a separate entity.” In 2018, Racheal Rettner sort of downplayed the role of Autism What’s Behind the Recent Rise in Autism in the US? “saying that the more it’s recognized, the more it is diagnosed.” And in 2017 Tom Chivers highlighted the fact that A Paper Claiming Wi-Fi Is Linked To Autism Has Been Accused Of Pseudoscience “Published in the respected journal Child Development, by Cindy Sage and Ernesto Burgio, titled “Electromagnetic Fields, Pulsed Radiofrequency Radiation, and Epigenetics: How Wireless Technologies May Affect Childhood Development.” was completely attacked and dismissed.

Certainly some articles published reflect a bias towards downplaying the extent of Autism, whereas others are quickly silenced. It depends on who’s paying the writers. Follow the money, as the saying goes. Nevertheless, the last few decades of spikes in Autism around the world are not random cases of schizophrenia.

Seems the increased frequency of Autism correlates worldwide with exposure to increased EM frequencies from Cellular Phone Technology – which keeps getting stronger, or so the Telecom Giants promise us.

It was a hunch, that prompted an intuition fueled search.

Verizon, AT&T Reveal Additional 5G Launch (2018) Markets “This is part of densifying the network and positioning it to excel at 5G.”

From a business insider’s perspective, this article Cell Phone Networks and Frequencies Explained: 5 Things To Know mentions that the four major networks in the U.S. are Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile. 4G is often up to 10x faster than 3G — with speeds commonly between 20Mbps and 50Mbps (which is really fast). The United States is broadly covered by both 3G and 4G LTE technology. The next generation cellular network-5G-promises speeds between 10 and 100 times faster than 4G LTE.

Why? Do we need to encase our minds and focus our attention in a virtual world, as we continue to maim and disfigure this one?

The Answer: don’t let the cell phone provider companies whose towering glass edifices in every major city, like Oz, shiny and powerful, dictate an infrastructure mania to have ever faster and more powerful waves for your convenience and your purse – as you continue to pay them for each new model and upgrade. Perhaps what is lethal beneath their shiny, buildings and the shiny devices, is that their ultimate goal is to maintain their profits and control.

Perhaps as tobacco companies concealed the dangers of smoking cigarettes, and that among other companies, General Motor’s intention was to dismantle the infrastructure of street cars & train transportation in the USA to make room for the tire and automotive industries, and that for 40 years the petroleum giants have known indisputably the hazards of burning fossil fuels, kept that information from the public, the association of autism with cell phone technology is not spoken about. I wonder if the CEO’s of the various cellular companies dominating the international market, have cell towers right next to their multimillion dollar homes? I doubt it. Someone already did the groundwork. He looked at maps of cellphone towers in metropolitan areas, fitting them over counties by income, and found that the towers tend to be in lower income neighborhoods. The writer of Cell Phones – Cell Towers – Haarp. An EMF Triple Threat, Michael Winter, shows a map of a wealthy neighborhood and the corresponding map of the absence of cell towers in that precise region. I did my own brief research. I found the wealthiest county in the USA, Loudoun County, Virginia near Washington D.C. and used this tool to locate the cell phone towers in the region, https://www.cellmapper.net, and my map comparison also showed an absence of towers in Loudoun county.

India Travel Tips: dress, theft, electronics to pollution

Sharing some India travel tips I gathered in my preparations; from several western women travelers as well as Indian natives who were raised there.

• Don’t leave purses, bags, valuables by open windows – on trains for example -and or behind flimsy walls. I heard the story from a friend whose tent was sliced open as her purse was lifted from where it was perched at the base of a window, while she slept.
• Keep an extra purse in an available pocket, separate from where you keep your money, passport and valuables hidden, so that it appears that you only have this available to be taken.
• VISA’s are in high demand these days, everywhere, no doubt contributing to a black market movement to assist in the massive immigration of people desperate to start a new life. I was informed that western VISAs are targeted – whether you’re in NYC, London or traveling throughout Asia or Africa. Keep it hidden.
• Better to use a credit card than debit card, having heard of stories of people being escorted around to take money out of one, and then another ATM.
• Speaking of ATM machines, an Indian woman informed me not to take money out of ATM’s that are out in the street in India. They are likely to be scam machines. Use ATM’s in banks.
• Women, adjust your fashion to accommodate the tendencies of the country you are visiting. Wear long sleeves, long pants, loose, rather than tight and provocative clothing. Perhaps wear a scarf around your chest to further district attention. No need to stand out for the wrong reasons and attracting the wrong kind of attention.
• Regarding clothing, there’s more forgiveness for casual wear in cities that are modern or when you’re hanging out with a group of friends, than more traditional cities or rural areas. People have a tendency to be less tolerant, no matter where you are, the further you get away from the coasts, which tend to be more liberal.
• Some of the larger cities in India are quite polluted, and not particularly pleasant to walk around in if there’s 12 foot visibility through a screen of smog. Here’s a good indicator to follow, a real-time global pollution index, to perhaps guide you with a more informed decision of where you may wish to head to next. http://aqicn.org/map/india/

Real-time International Air Polllution Index aqicn

Real-time International Air Polllution Index

• As someone who is old school – traveling with a laptop rather than merely a smart Phone – I wanted to make sure that I wouldn’t fry my Mac.
– Not only do you need the appropriate ‘adapter’ in order to plug in to the compatible socket in India, – It’s a good idea to have a ‘surge protector’, which I always have no matter where I am.
– However, a surge protector is only compatible with the voltage reflecting the country in which it is produced.
– Surge protectors from France or Germany are compatible with India – both operating within the 220 to 240 V range. Whereas a surge protector produced In the US, where the voltage is 110 to 120 V, will not function in India.
– In addition to a ‘surge protector’, you will benefit from having a device that protects you from voltage fluctuations, called a ‘voltage regulator’. Better to be safe and relaxed, than worried or worse, horrified, as your digitally created baby is sautéed.

Proper Disposal of Batteries and Electronics > Mercury Poisoning | Health Hazards of CFL’s and LED’s

A week ago I had a conversation with a few people at an art gallery, triggered through the woman’s art, which portrayed all of these different fungi, lichens and ferns. I wouldn’t have noticed this on her paintings at first, had another woman not pointed these out, because of her familiarity with these types of species. A guy there, engineer I believe, mentioned that we all talk about the dangers of a warming earth, but what concerns him more is the improper disposal of batteries (of which the modern world has a prodigious amount) which contain mercury. He’s more worried about heavy metals. Mercury leaking into soil and water is not a good thing. If the mercury in batteries and metals in electronic devices are not recycled or disposed of properly, these heavy metals can leak into soil and water. Here are some fact sheets about mercury.

http://www.who.int/mediacentre/factsheets/fs361/en/

He delivered this information which I absolutely had no clue about, that the fairly recent countrywide switchover (in the USA) from the standard incandescent bulbs 60, 75 and 100 watt light bulbs to (CFL) compact fluorescent light and (LED) light-emitting diode, is of much more concern, because they emit radiation and contain mercury. Turns out that the former standard was of low cost, safe to make, inexpensive to produce and safe if they break (except for broken glass). Turns out the new (longer lasting) low energy bulbs are more expensive, and potentially harmful.

Someone – a handful of companies – have made a lot of money, as the entire country stopped the production of the former, removing them from the market entirely, as if they were toxic, to replace them with the twisty/coiled ‘lower energy’ bulbs – CFL’s – that actually are toxic. They are said to potentially emit higher levels of radiation.

“As it turns out, all fluorescent light bulbs contain mercury vapor, which emits a lot of UV rays when hit with an electric current.” This article by NPR discusses it.

This gentleman said that “If one were to break in your home, you should immediately get out of that room so as not to inhale the fumes, and be careful of how you dispose of them; they are too toxic to put in normal trash.

How did this happen, without anyone having a clue of their repercussions? What kind of marketing and government subsidies did this manufacturer(s) receive? There seem to not be many. Wait a moment. Frankly, I just want to get this post out there for you, the reader, to be aware and to investigate for yourself how much you want to use this type of lighting.

National Geographic has an informative article “Separating Myth From Fact on CFL and LED Light Bulbs: Five Concerns Addressed

More importantly, go through the effort when discarding old batteries, bulbs or electronic devices, to go to a recycling center near you that will dispose of these materials properly, rather than just throwing it in the trash.

“In this case the liquid (saltwater) passes through a membrane in between the two tanks, creating an electric charge. This electricity is then stored and distributed by super capacitors. The four electric motors in the car are fed electricity which makes it run. The car carries the water in two 200-litre tanks, which in one sitting will allow drivers to travel up to 373 miles (600km).

We’ve got major plans, and not just within the automobile industry. The potential of the NanoFlowcell technology and its applications is much greater, especially in terms of domestic energy supplies as well as in maritime, rail and aviation technology.

All cars should be required to be made from this type, or other similar types of clean green energy.

“It’s remarkable how Barack Obama has constantly pointed out that we will be using oil, gas and coal for the next twenty years, and that we don’t have the technology to lift our dependence off of these resources.

Those who are looking into it can clearly see that this simply isn’t true. We have the means to live in ways that are more harmonious with the planet and all beings on it.” Not to mention, a plethora of jobs can be created to implement this at all levels.

Calling: all workers in the industries of coal, mining, petroleum… > there are other income opportunities out there!

Yes, We Can, well that is, Yes, the U.S. Navy CAN covert seawater to fuel.

We need to pull away from coal, petroleum and all other dirty, non-renewable processes and invest our insights, energies and integrity into supporting clean, renewable energies.

“It’s just another example of the many ways of generating energy that are now available that could end our dependence on fossil fuels. These new, clean green ways of generating energy have been around for decades, so why are we always talking about them without ever implementing them?”

It just so happens that those with undivided interest and ownership in coal and fossil fuel as well as their dirty derivative industries are anonymously pouring huge amounts of money into disinformation campaigns regarding Global Warming and its main culprits. This article from the Guardian talks about the secretive donors who gave US climate denial groups $125m over three years.

The Earth is not Responsible for Global Warming – Earth has no barcode

Thomas Berry, Dreamer of the Earth: The Spiritual Ecology co-author of “The Universe Story” writes, “The natural world itself is the primary economic reality, the primary educator, the primary governance, the primary technologist, the primary healer, the primary presence of the sacred, the primary moral value“.

It is in the best interest of all – humans and all other life forms on Earth. And for financial reasons, companies and individuals who have divested their stocks and bonds in fossil fuel companies have outperformed…

This article from the Guardian points out that the real danger is not the kayaktivists, but Shell.

Why is this important? Because the beautiful and fantastic display of the diversity of life that have taken millions of years to evolve to their unique spectacular natures, is what ROCKS about our planet Earth: Living together intimately and harmoniously with the diversity of the entire biosphere is the reason and the beauty of this planet. No other reason, except for the fact that we are all related and interdependent and of this earth. Our heaven is right here on earth. It is the Earth and its myriad of life – the biosphere and the geosphere – that is sacred and needs our protection.

Why bother? As the authors of “Ecobuddhism and the wisdom of the psyche – The Universe Story” unveil. “We are a communion of subjects, not a collection of objects”. Here are some excerpts from the “The Universe Story” of Brian Swimme and Thomas Berry.

“That our western civilization should be the principal cause of such extensive damage to the planet is so difficult a truth for us to absorb that our society in general is presently in a state of shock and denial, or disbelief…Our western addiction to commercial-industrial progress as our basic referent for reality and value, is becoming an all-pervasive attitude throughout the various peoples and cultures of the Earth.”

Not a neural toxin, but an attitude and understanding deficiency!

“Efforts to present the full reality of the situation are being met generally with intense opposition, an opposition due to the subservience of our religious, educational and professional establishments to our industrial culture….the Ecozoic Era requires a comprehensive human consensus away from what we’ve been brainwashed into beholding as true; i.e. Manufactured Consent – The Political Economy of the Mass Media – a non-fiction book written by by Edward S. Elon Musk | Tesla Energy’s Powerwall | Energy Sustainability Worldwide

This is a relatively short video of Elon Musk introducing Tesla Energy’s Powerwall, a solution to the world’s need to transition from fossil fuels to renewable energy from our sun – sustainability which can be achieved through his design of the Powerwall battery storage units.

Elon Musk presenting Tesla Energy’s Powerwall – solution to transitioning to renewable energy globally

Elon Musk (founder of PayPal) presents his new company – Tesla Energy’s – solution to transitioning the world to sustainable energy and completely alleviating our reliance on fossil fuels, thus reducing our cataclysmic exponential rise of CO2 levels, to zero.

Up to this point, the world has predominantly been relying on very dirty sources of acquiring energy; harmful to our environment, air, water and to all creatures.

Elon Musk, CO2, Concentration, Atmosphere

Elon Musk presentation Growth in CO2 Concentration in the Atmosphere

What is needed is to transition the world to sustainable energy.

Musk explains that the grid in most countries is powered in this way, from the most to the least utilized:
Coal
Natural Gas
Nuclear
Hydro
Wind
Solar

Every year the Growth of CO2 Concentration in the Atmosphere exponentially rises. There is no question that we need to collectively make a transition to renewable clean energy.

“Is it something that humanity can do?” Elon asks. “Or is it an impossible or insurmountable task?” It is not!

The Solution – Part I: this handy fusion reactor in the sky, producing ridiculous amounts of power, our Sun.

Very little land is needed to harness the sun’s energy to rid us of fossil fuel dependence. Most of this can be achieved by utilizing rooftops on existing homes and buildings.

The Problem – Part I:

The biggest obstacle, the sun doesn’t shine at night, in addition to the fact that the energy generation is variable.

The Problem – Part II:

The missing piece to a sustainable energy world is the battery needed to hold the sun’s power. > The existing batteries are not good; they are expensive, unreliable, poor lifetime, integration, low efficiency, not scalable, unattractive.

Yet, the size of the batteries needed for use in order to relieve our dependence on fossil fuels, is not at all large, it’s quite small in fact.

The Solution – Part II:

The Renewable Grid: The Tesla ‘Powerwall’

Elon Musk, Renewable Grid

Elon Musk presentation Renewable Grid

It is wall mounted, on the garage or outside wall of the house; including DC converter, addressing all of the needs.
You can go off-grid. Take solar panels and charge the battery packs, and that’s all you use.
$3,500 dollars – you can stack them together.
It is a solution for people in remote parts of the world where electricity is difficult to come by or too expensive.
It is scalable, from home, to public institution, to cities…globally.

Tesla’s first product for the home market is the Powerwall.

He as well introduces the ‘Powerpack’ – which offers the same energy storage solution at an industrial level. Musk goes on to reveal the factory that is a large machine which will create these, which Tesla can not do alone. Tesla Energy will open-source the information so that factories can be built all over the world by other parties.

To make this transition:

• In the United States, this can be achieved with 160 Million Powerpacks
• With 900 Million Powerpacks, we could transition the world; making all electricity generation renewable, primarily through solar.
• 2 Billion Powerpacks would be needed to transition all transportation, electricity generation and heating to renewable energy. He ads that to imagine the number of 2 B, we have approximately 2 billion cars and trucks on the road today.

Genomes: Unlocking Life’s Code | Natural History | SI Minerals and Gems

In the summer of 2014 I visited the Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code exhibit at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History in Washington D.C. All of the museums within the Smithsonian complex in D.C. are free by the way. The Genome exhibit is a traveling one. It left San Diego’s Reuben H. Fleet Science Center January 4th and is currently in San Jose, California, moving to various destinations around the country.

Here are a few words as a mini refresher course, to familiarize yourself with the difference between a gene and a genome…well, I can speak for myself. I needed to familiarize myself! 🙂

A gene is the basic unit of heredity with phenotypic effects on the body. A gene is a very small section or subset of a genome. A genome contains genes which are packaged in chromosomes. A chromosome may have thousands of genes. A gene consists of various codons, which sequence nucleotides, coding a protein. Every single codon codes an amino acid.

Many amino acids put together form a protein.

In most living things, the genome is made of a chemical called DNA, or deoxyribonucleic acid, which is the molecule that encodes the instructions for life. A gene is a piece of DNA which codes the polypeptide chain. Every codon within a gene consists of a base-pair. A base-pair consists of the two opposite nucleotides on the double helix of DNA. The DNA molecule consists of two strands that wind around each other like a twisted ladder. Each strand has a backbone made of alternating sugar (deoxyribose) and phosphate groups. Attached to each sugar is one of four bases–adenine (A), cytosine (C), guanine (G), or thymine (T). The two strands are held together by hydrogen bonds between the bases, with adenine forming a base pair with thymine, and cytosine forming a base pair with guanine.

A genome contains all of the genetic material for building, running and maintaining an organism – the sum total of all of the genes present within the chromosomes of an individual species – within a single cell.

The genome is divided into chromosomes, chromosomes contain genes and genes are made of DNA.

Here’s a more sophisticated rendering of the structure of the double helix of DNA.

The Human Genome Project Information Archive 1990-2003 is a valuable source of information on the subject.

What continues to fascinate me, is what the exhibit demonstrates from the very start, comparisons of genome sizes among different organisms. It seems logical, that the more sophisticated the organism, the longer the genomes, right? Well, not so.

The Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code exhibit shows this promptly as you enter.

genome size, amoeba genome, barley genome, human genome

The Genome size of Amoeba is > than that of a grain of Barley which is > than that of a Human Genome

This graph below from the site link below illuminates the same information visually. (Looking at the actual numerical sizes within a graph further down the page of this link is more difficult to comprehend, because the numerical values are so small that they are like reading another language!) How Big are Genomes

Weizmann, genome size, organisms.

It continues to surprise me!

These pictures capture the essence of the exhibit Genomes: Unlocking Life’s Code. This link to the left reveals a great deal of information about the subject.

Obama’s State of the Union Address | A Noble and Inspirational Leader

Obama’s State of the Union Address

I thought it was a fantastic speech, full of hope and inspiration! Tears of gratitude poured down my face several times. What he chose to acknowledge and address for the future and his optimism, grace and noble nature reveal him as a true leader with a spiritual presence.

I sat and typed as I watched the speech, switching between Al Jazeera and CNN. You have to read between the lines and accept the fact that this is as edited as my notes are going to be. I’m sure a copy of the speech is available through various sites: Facebook and Twitter ‘the White House’.

Middle Class economics, instead of Trickle Down Economics.

…about America…
economy growing at fastest pace since 1999
unemployment rate lower than before financial crisis
more people graduating
as free from grip of foreign oil as we’ve been in 30 years
past 5 yrs businesses created more than 11 M new jobs
america is # one in oil and gas
america is # one in wind power

restore the link between hard working and making gains; for EVERYONE
childcare costs more than their mortgage or the cost of one year tuition at Michigan uni

the country gains when everyone plays by the same rules and everyone contributes to our success

Middle Class economics

• helping working families feel more secure in world of constant change
• when the economics forces both parents to work, we need to stop treating childcare as a woman’s issue; treat it as a national issue that is important for all of us – quality childcare, new tax cuts, $3,000/per child/per year
• we are the only advanced country that doesn’t guarantee paid six leave or childcare – helping states that gives every worker in America to earn 7 days paid sick leave
• Congress pass a law to guaranttee that a woman is paid the same as a man doing the same work
• to Congress: if you truly believe you can live and support a family on $15,000 a year, try it!
• need laws to strengthen rather than weaken a Union
• we need to do more to help Americans upgrade their skills
• in a 21C economy that rewards knowledge more than any before. too many people are priced out of higher education: lower the cost of community college to zero. Stay ahead of the curve; make community college available and universal. Connecting community colleges to connect with local business to train them; paid apprenticeships
• give every veteran access; translate their training and experience into civilian jobs
• Michele and Joe Biden helped in a program to get veterans jobs
• 21C businesses need 21stC infrastructure – create more than
• businesses need to sell more products overseas
• china wants to write the rules – trade promotion – trade deals from Asia to Europe that aren’t just fair. 95% of the world’s customers live outside our borders. We need to bring jobs back from china
• rely on american science, technology, research and development = precision medicine initiative to give us access to making headway
• protect a free and open internet, to build the fastest networks – wants Americans to win the race in creating the proestetics, solar system, astronauts to Mars Good luck Captain Kelly will live for a year in space. “Make sure to instagram it!”
• stop the loopholes, reward companies that keep the jobs here on this soil
• simplify the tax system
• stop allowing the top 1% – that truly helps working Americans to get the economy together
• give people the tools they need, to maintain the conditions for growth – make our economy stronger
• we can not separate our work at home from what’s happening beyond our shores
• how can America can lead in the world. look at the broader strategy to live in a safer Worl
• combine military power with strong diplomacy, don’t let our fears blind us. that’s what the terrorists want, to pay us in their hands

We stand united with people around the world – from schools in Pakistan

bankrupt ideology of violent extremism, opposing Russia’s aggression, supporting Ukraine, supporting NATO allies

America leads not with bluster but persistant steady resolve

Cuba’s isolation is long past it’s isolation date
when what what you’re doing doesn’t work for 50 years, it’s time to try something new
• stand up for democratic values; ending the embargo

• as his holiness Pope Francis; diplomacy is the work of small steps

• he will veto any sanctions
• only go to war as a last result
• no hacker should be able to steal trade secrets
• the world needs to use this lesson; invest in smart development, eradicate extreme poverty, learn how to avoid a global pandemic
• no challenge poses a greater threat to future generations than climate change – 2014 was the planet’s warmest on record, 14 of the 15 warmest years have been
• NASA NOA the best scientists in the world are telling us our activities are changing the planet; massive destructions, posing immediate risks to our national security “we should act like it”
• more public lands have been contributed in the last years
• American leadership must drive international action. The world needs to reach an agreement to protect the one last planet we have.
• As American’s we respect human dignity; technology such as drones must be properly restrained, speak out against antisemitism, stop approaching Muslim’s with fear, cut populations in prisons
• we do these things because they are not only the right thing to do, but because ultimately they will make us safer
• increase more transparency; keep country safe while strengthening privacy
build coalitions to build
• lead with our values; that’s what keeps us strong – hold ourselves to the highest of standards
• United States of America in a nation that gave someone like me a chance; Chicago microcosm of country
• Division itself is misguided: I still believe that we can work together. American’s beat back adversity. He knows the good hearted, generosity and optimism of the American people
• to Congress he said: “set a better example, better reflect America’s hopes. There are a lot of good people on both sides of the isle.
• !!! Imagine if we broke out of these tired old patterns and appeal to each others’ basic decency instead of fears!!!! (wow!)
• talk issues, values, facts …. a better politics instead of drowning people in dark ads, but asking young people to join in the mission of building america

• to Congress: Let’s make the debates worthy of this country,

*reform America’s criminal justice system so that it protects and serves all of us

•rebuild trust. that’s how we move this country forward. I have no more campaigns to run “i know because i won both of them” (excellent comment!). My only agenda for the next two years, is to do what i believe is best for America.

• I want this chamber to reflect the truth; people with strength and generosity of spirit to unite, actions to tell every child in every neighborhood that your life matters

•We see our differences as a great gift. Everybody matters, grow up in a country that shows the world everything that we know to be true. We are more than a collection of red states and blues states. I want people to grow up in a country where a young mom can write a letter to the president.

We are a strong tightknit family who has made it through some hard times. Picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off, and laid a foundation.

Hershey Antique Auto Show 2012 October 10th – 14th | Early Magnetic Technology Applications

Here are lots of pictures of the Hershey Antique Auto show that I took 2012.

Hand-cranked magneto generators are electric generators that use permanent magnets to produce periodic pulses of alternating current.

I happened to attend the first hours of the first day of the Antique Auto Show in Hershey, PA, having randomly heard some people speaking English with an obvious German accent the evening prior, which beckoned me to approach them. The pair are from Bern, Switzerland, colleagues here to attend the auto show. Ironically, they ran into someone from a town within 30 km. of their home town, 5,000 miles away there at the show. The one also spoke with a few Canadian men speaking French from Montreal. Quite an international crowd, not surprising considering it’s the largest auto show of its kind in the world.

I was delighted that I could converse with the two of them in German, and also help to translate here and there when it was needed. The Swiss German dialect is a more staccato & tonal version of HochDeutsch “High German”, and though I’m sure that they could obscure what they wished to say if they had the intent, it is parallel enough that I was able to understand and converse.

I appreciate all sorts of luxuriously simple designs, and naturally took pictures. I’ve learned a bit as well. As usual, I’m drawn to things of an electrical and magnetic nature, since having done my blog on plasma cosmology, which fascinates me.

I found myself curious about these objects, which I subsequently learned are magnetos, electrical generators that use permanent magnets to produce periodic pulses of alternating current. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magneto Hand-cranked magneto generators were used to provide the ringing current in early telephone systems.

Magnetos were adapted to produce pulses of high voltage, used in the ignition systems of some gasoline-powered internal combustion engines to provide power to the spark plugs. As this wiki link about the magneto reveals; the “Production of electric current from a moving magnetic field was demonstrated by Faraday in 1831.”

Hey, this is all new to me, as a curious by-stander!

Though this isn’t car related, check out the earliest sound recording devices, these cylinders actually contain tunes!

I’ve learned through viewing a few websites in my research that the first sound recording devise was invented by Thomas Edison.

Here’s a link regarding the history of recorded music, with all the insights and information about inventors over the period from 1877 to the present. http://www.timetoast.com/timelines/51727

Emile Berliner was an early developer and inventor of audio technology including the Gramophone (sound recorder). He was the first inventor to stop recording on cylinders and start recording on flat disks.

Here’s an older version of the LP, the flat disk of a gramophone.
