Laud to the end of | theDanger | the most eloquent of underground events | NYC has scene | ;-D

The last, of almost a half decade of some of the most sumptuous and f*8n best underground parties the New York metropolitan area has seen, will occur, very soon. I am so sorry to hear that this era of eloquence and excellence, communicated through this particular party promoter, will no longer appear in my inbox and grace the city with his imaginative forays. Thank you so much!! Names surreptitiously withheld to protect the actors! Though it will continue in other forms, it’s pretty much bringing tears to my eyes to hear that these specific parties will end, and that I can’t be there for the last one, due to not having the money to book a flight. HELP!! Please someone send me your frequent flyer miles ‘-)) Your extra money that you could donate to this ‘starving artist’. I’m not starving actually, but will write a little sketch on Carolkeiter’s Blog after this one I just posted – pics of Halloween night’s decadent costume party in Berlin at an American owned music and event bar “White Trash Fast Food”. I will write about how I just survived 11 days – and two consecutive weekends – without having a single euro, yet actively participating in many different events daily/nightly and maintaining productive and cheerful throughout the duration. I never, ever would have let things slide into such a slippery situation, while living and working in my own country, now wait, aren’t many people in such situations presently? My point is that I love New York, would love to participate in the last of “theDanger” parties, and I would love so very, very much to visit my loving and supportive parents in neighboring PA. Okay, enough said, thought it wouldn’t hurt to put it out there !-D

If you are in the NYC area, and haven’t heard about theDanger, contact me via email and I’ll let you know more about it, maybe 😉 11 | ? | 11

Just for a hint of the grandeur of past gatherings, great warehouse parties and flash mob type events, as the illustrious promoter states “previous exploits”, I further quote his evocative email indicating this last party:

This grand adventure started several years ago with 4,000 of you taking over the Brooklyn Bridge in one night of fire, then continued in the warehouses of Brooklyn and culminated with an exclamation point in the streets of Times Square.

Through the dozens of parties, the reckless hedonism, the endless nights and the brilliant mornings, this journey has been an ode to you and the gorgeous riot that is New York City. And now it comes to the poetic conclusion… This makes me really, really miss being present in New York city!!

Berlin Rally Oct. 15th 2011 | Global Day of Economic Protest from the 99% |

On Saturday October 15th, I participated in the rally which took place in Berlin, among those rippling around the world, on this global day of economic protest. Spawned by the “Occupy Wall Street” movement instigated in NYC, the 99% of the population around the world wish to ‘occupy’ and gain the wealth due, which has been up to this point in the hands of the 1% – the banks – who happen to also control the weapons. People around the globe; in New York, London, Madrid, Berlin, Paris, Hong Kong, Sydney… demand that the bankers not be bailed out, but that wealth be shared.

Here’s a pic posted from Alex Gendler, who’s a resident in NYC.

The title alone of his blog is clever!!

In the meantime, here’s what the New York Times coverage in the USA reveals.

Here’s what Amy Goodman on Democracy Now had to say about this incident (pictured above) of a 24 year old Iraq War vet, Scott Olsen, who received a fractured skull after being hit on the head during the protest in Oakland by a projectile fired by the police.

More people’s testimonies can be viewed directly on the we are the 99 % site:

In fact the ‘occupy wall street movement‘ marked one month on the 17th of October, as instigator’s of the people to rally in New York city and camp out at Zuccotti Park. You can get continuous updates about what’s currently happening in New York and other cities through Amy Goodman’s broadcasts on Democracy Now.

And there’s another call for people to occupy the Bundestag/Parlament – Spaziergang zum Platz der Republik – this time on Saturday the 22nd, from 1pm to 3pm. Berlin Versammlung #occupyberlin #occupybundestag.

In Berlin, the air was festive and the crowd represented all ages, ethnic and economic backgrounds. There were loads of signs and testimonies regarding each person or group’s particular insights. There were quite a number of Guy Fawkes masks in the crowd, appropriately.

There was music everywhere during the march; from bicycles equipped with speakers blaring techno, to older folks singing folkloric songs in pairs, a choir of people singing A cappella with lyrics about the economy, drumming groups and wagons with music…. It was mostly a joyous gathering of people with a lot of laughter and dancing at different stopping points. People sat before the Reichstag/Parlament making various speeches, using the ‘human microphone’ aka Michael Moore style in NYC. One person would stand up stating a phrase, and the group of people sitting around him or her would echo line by line the words, so that everyone further away could hear. The only tension (while I was still present) was at the the end of the march when people were gathered sitting before the Reichstag – the building which houses the Bundestag / Parlament, when the the riot police came in to the crowd to confiscate the people’s tents! It seemed more like a symbolic show of power, with the tent more a representation of the people’s demand to be there, than anything more. There was commotion and boos coming from the crowed when the police lifted the tent above their heads and carried it away. Then cheers sprung from the crowd, when suddenly another tent appeared and was lifted back into the same circle. Ha! I imagined this scene going on for a while, with each subsequent tent being just a little bit smaller, like the Russian “Matryoshka dolls” each replica smaller and smaller, nestled within the next. I imagined the last tent hoisted by the ‘people’ being about a foot in diameter, as their own might is deflated by the police.

Heine of set up his symbolic cash register which states: The Zero Sum Game – Berlin-Gegen-Krieg/ Berlin Against War.

One of the more amusing signs was one which read on one side:

• Wir sind die 99%, Schluß mit Lustigem Casino / We are the 99%, put an end to this joke of a casino.

and on the other

• Rettet der Erde! sie ist der einziger Planet mit Schokolade!
Save the Earth! It’s the only planet with chocolate!

The guy who was flaunting this before where we were sitting in the crowd in front of the Bundestag was quite a joker himself. At one point he stated loudly in hearing range of a lot of people; well, I have to leave the revolution now, because Lidl/the grocery store, closes at 8pm. I felt as if this ironically sums up a lot, because as long as people are relatively comfortable and not in any dire circumstances, they will be propelled to continue with their routines, among them, buying food before the stores close or any other dictates by our culture through manufactured consent… going home to watch a TV program. ouch!

Two other things stood out in my head from the protest, one was a man who was mad, not necessarily a madman, who had a megaphone. He was ranting into the crowd yelling at people for taking pictures and having cell phones…but then giggling as he was ranting. At one point this other man annoyed, came up to him and grabbed the microphone to start shouting some things back at him, and they proceeded to argue for a while standing within a foot of one another, taking turns grabbing the little black thing to speak into the megaphone.

The other which I found amusing, was when as my friend and I were standing in one spot as the march had finished but people hadn’t yet started to gather at the Bundestag, suddenly all of these police in riot gear appeared right in front of us. They just stood there quietly inspecting the crowd, peering around in all directions. At on point a pair of kids walked up, one of them dressed very colorfully, and his language was just as flamboyant. He walked up to the police and asked them in if they were planning on shooting? I couldn’t follow all that he was saying in German, but he stood right next to the bulwark of about a dozen Policemen, and casually spoke in a louder than normal tone of voice to his friend standing next to him, talking about the Police, as if they weren’t standing right there beside him. He kept making all of these comments that were so provocative, dressed in flowery clothes that dangled on his lithe body, with a little pouch over his shoulder that was a stuffed animal. The police didn’t seem to be getting too perturbed, but this guy just kept on talking relentlessly. He never had an aggressive tone, just a kind of passive commentary, loud enough that they could all hear him, but never quite impressive enough to cause them to retaliate.

And the most endearing image was that of this adorable Spanish child of about 5 who was so excited every time this guy raised his string of wire to blow a bunch of bubbles with soap. This guy rode in a harmless little chariot that said “Capitalism is organized Crime”. Anyway, the boy would throw up his arms in delight and then run after the bubbles, as many kids of various ages did, and as many children of all the world would. Odd how money gets in the way, and the human factor is disregarded as dispensable, as is preserving nature and the animals of the planet, in the face of greed and the desire for more and more profit.

I saw one sign leaning over the shoulder of what appeared to be a well-dressed yuppy, “I’m mad as hell and I’m not going to take it anymore”, from the film Network. Yes, there was quite an array of voices and statements out there, and much of it quite amusing.

Here’s a link to a short video looking at the occupy wall street movement in NYC from the inside. (To preserve our planet, scientists tell us we must reduce the amount of CO2 in the atmosphere from its current level of 392 parts per million (“ppm”)to below 350 ppm) also is coordinating an occupy movement worldwide: #Occupy and the #Climate Movement.

Descriptions of the various signs can be viewed as you drag your mouse over the picture.

¿ Is the world going crazy, or merely some, getting away with murder ?

I was distracted from my ‘work’ today, after perusing the news. Frankly, I’m just wondering about how undeniably confused and bizarrely maligned, some people’s intentions are in the world that we live in. I guess you could call it, “off balance”.

A splash of the headlines:

It took the mother three (3) days to acquire the gun in Florida, which she used to murder her adolescent children. Let’s keep those loose gun laws intact, NRA! Fire away USA!

And then there are the headlines from Pakistan.

Shahbahz Bhatti was murdered yesterday by Muslim extremists, who had been threatening him. He was dedicated to trying to repeal the Islamist law imposed in 1986, which seeks the death penalty for anyone accused of speaking against the Prophet Muhammad. Bhatti worked towards abolishing this law, within this climate of extreme intolerance. He was among the 5% Christian and Hindu population, among the predominantly Muslim one, making up Pakistan’s 180 million inhabitants.

An example of what Bhatti was fighting for, is this woman in Pakistan, who was accused of saying something blasphemous about the Prophet Muhammad… uhh, and she happens to be a member of the only Christian household in her village. The real discussion was over water rights, among her female Muslim neighbors with whom she would pick berries, who were her accusers.

They not only want to kill her, but there’s a price over her head; a reward for anyone to kill her. Hey, I bet Prophet Muhammad would be all over this one, huh! I mean, would anyone with any spiritual attributes, condone slaughtering a person because of alleged accusations stemming from ignorance?

This blasphemy law, is also the reason that the Christian, Salman Taseer, was assassinated a week earlier; as he and Shahbahz Bhatti, were both publicly trying to change this law.

Ahhh, religious freedom and tolerance, go Pakistan! Jesus! will people ever learn? d’oh!

Bounce back to the USA, to the Gulf Oil crisis which took place a year ago in April, 2010, in which the Deepwater Horizon oil rig exploded, and spewed about 5 million barrels of oil into the ocean. Well, now the Interior Secretary, Ken Salazar, has granted permission for deepwater drilling once again, in the same region. Yeah, we’re all over that too! “Let’s go to the Gulf and do some grillen’, just ignite the water with a match, and bar-b-q whatever surfaces!

The one thing that sparked my attention about the whole incident in the first place, is that Halliburton had been in charge of the cementing process of the well. The cement mixture that was being used to seal the well, had been found to be unstable, prior to the explosion, yet they decided to go on with the process. “The cement mixture is used to secure the metal casing around the string of pipes and the drill bit as they penetrate the reservoirs of oil and gas lying deep beneath the ocean floor. Cement also is supposed to keep oil and gas from pushing back up the well, causing a blowout.” It obviously didn’t do the job, and populations of the neighboring states, as well as all of the wildlife in the area of the Gulf, have been the victims.

Speaking of Halliburton, I was just reading about the unprecedented number of earth quakes that have been occurring recently in Kansas, in the Midwest of the United States. Recently, a connection of these rumbles has been made to “hydraulic fracturing”, an invasive natural gas drilling technique, which I first heard about on the television program “60 Minutes” a year ago in the U.S. Not only is the process intensely disturbing to the earth, but there’s also indication that the process releases toxic contaminants, among them, radioactive material, into the waterways and ground water in the vicinities that this drilling takes place.

Guess who is involved in this destructively greedy process, along with a laundry list of other contaminating and deceptive stuff happening all over the world, yes, evil incarnate “Halliburton”. Let’s just say, “corpocracy” rules again; greed and power, united to make the world a better place, through pilfering and destruction of the planet and it’s inhabitants! I vote for Halliburton, as the crème de la crème of the elite corporate corrupters.

Regarding this drilling process, Dick Cheney, former Vice President, allowed the Environmental Protection Agency to get away with murder, of the environment. Entitled “The Hallliburton Loophole”, the EPA was stripped of it’s authority to investigate this new drilling process called hydraulic fracturing, when it was in its’ infancy.

Then spin the globe around to China, where authorities have become worried about all of the protests in the Arab world. Despite their stronger economy than most of these Arab nations, they’re so concerned about these various pro-democracy demonstrations, that they’ve been heightening their crackdown on human rights lawyers and activists, and words like “Egypt” and “Tunisia” have been blocked on some internet web search engines and social network sites, making them completely inaccessible.
It’s always valuable when you want to maintain your power, to keep your subjects afraid and uninformed.

For some comedic relief, check out Jon Stewart’s take on Gaddafi.

“The Yes Men” and the “House of Yes”

In case you haven’t heard of the Yes Men, they are culture jamming political activists with a theatrical leaning. They create through their own wit, wits and resourcefulness, ways to actually embed themselves among their enemies – the corporate giants – to influence them to acknowledge their greedy and inhumanitarian ways and ultimately atone for their victims…

Here’s a movie they’ve just released

They have nothing to do with (I mistakingly at first thought the two were connected !!) the House of Yes,
an East Williamsburg Brooklyn, New York based performance art space founded by Anya Sapozhnikova and Kae Burke, where anyone, almost, can host their own events.

And an article was written about an interview with the founders, here.

| Mauer Mob & Berlin Wall of Sound |

I was on my way to go to participate in this event – forming a Wall of People along the path of the former Wall that had been erected by the USSR
calling thembselves the Mauer Mob, Mauer is the German word for Wall.

organized by one of the members of the Berlin couchsurfing group

However, as I had hosted this past weekend (as a couchsurfer member) two guys visiting Berlin from the Netherlands, they happened to mention this other event which was coordinated to make a statement about the day the Wall fell, 20 years ago on November 9th.

I bicycled over to Mauer Park to join in the 15 minutes of creating a Human Wall, and approached a group in the drizzle thinking that they were there for this event, but observed that all of these people had instruments slung around their shoulders.  I asked a couple of them if they were there for the Mauer Mob, of which they hadn’t a clue, and didn’t speak German.  Soon I put it together that these were the Dutch participants of the Berlin Wall of Sound.

This was Holland’s statement about the falling of the Wall…creating “A Wall of Sound”.  I was informed that a rock group “Noir” out of Groningen, Holland (NL) decided to contribute to the world their constructive statement about boundaries, by building bridges through sound rather than separating people through barriers of Nationalism or Religion….that’s my idea of their intent anyway.

206 was the rough number of participants that the organizers were looking for, to represent the number of people who died attempting to flee the East during the time period that the wall had been erected in and around Berlin.

An article about this event is here.  an aritcle in timeslive is here.

and here is a german article about it.

Here’s the myspace blog created by some members of the band “Noir” regarding this event which took place yesterday.  I’m sure that the recording of the event will be uploaded soon, if it hasn’t been already!

here’s their blog on myspace.

Salut from Berlin!

Silent Climate Parade

Oct. 24th | Global Day of Climate Action |

October 24th is the ‘Global Day of Climate Action’ organized by Bill McKibben, who’s behind  350 ppm are the top level of particulates – carbon dioxide particles in parts per million – that can be tolerated in our atmosphere in order to reach a sustainable level, to make a dent along the global warming axis towards disaster.  We need to cap at this amount, to reverse the process, or attempt to slow it down.

Here’s an excellent 6 min. video of 350 dot org’s Berlin, Germany Silent Climate Parade 2013 (different year, but captures the essence)

The impetus of the voices around the world calling attention to this is to put forth to the attendees of the Copenhagen Climate Conference glaring ahead, the need to acknowledge the importance of making a coordinated worldwide effort to reduce the number of particles contaminating the environment to a sustainable level of 350ppm.

This will be the most widespread day of political global action in world history.  4,500 events have been planned in 177 countries.  McKibben mentioned in an interview with Amy Goodman of “Democracy Now”that the people of the United States “are the most addicted, and therefore most in denial” about the issue.

I’ll be attending among others the Berlin, Germany, Silent Climate Parade. Here are pics from 350 dot org Climate movements worldwide. Ravers on the Boulevard Unter den Linden in Berlin, credit: Lars Borges
