Let’s Act Differently-Embrace All Life-Change Habits-Incite Responsibility-Share Incentives

I am sending this letter today, right now, to one after another individual and group on the list included at the bottom. Talk about complete transparency. I want each to realize who all the recipients are, so that they may also add to the list. I need a job, and this is what comes to mind; gathering many to coordinate education at the grass roots level, that all of us can participate in.

I’d like to work with you in starting a global, grass-roots educational campaign – coordinated between all – re: ecological emergency; informing and inspiring public response to changing habits and actions.

Hi,

I would like to work with you towards shifting peoples’ perceptions from complacency to fully recognizing how their actions and habits make an impact on their immediate surroundings and cumulatively affect climate change. Offering education and incentives that people can relate to, to guide them to think and act differently. An edutainment campaign which reaches to the public to give them a voice, through asking them to participate in providing ideas, questions, answers and listening to their responses. The idea, that by allowing people to engage and participate, they will feel more connected, more empowered and motivated, more responsible, and feel excited and involved as they watch how their messages like waves, ripple to bring other people together.

I don’t believe anything can happen unless everyone is involved. That’s why I’m writing to each of the (individuals and organizations) resources of information I’ve valued and whose messages I’ve shared. Altogether about 40 at the moment. In fact, I’ve just decided to include the entire list of who I’m writing to, so that each of you can fill in and add some more people or groups to the list; who may in fact be more pivotal and effective in initiating this. I’m a female American who loves to write, draw portraits, paint trees and landscapes, play piano and bass guitar, and use computer music programs to compose electronic music. My compositions often incorporate the sounds of different creatures: whales, dolphins, penguins, insects and birds, so far.

I am ready right now (as I will probably have no housing nor money to pay rent in a matter of weeks and am able and willing to relocate virtually anywhere on the planet) to join a movement that coordinates education to raise awareness and offer guidelines towards immediate action. I believe that by working together, across individual and organizational boundaries, across disciplines, that we could engage the public to respond, as if life on our planet depended on it. Well, because it does. Complacency or lack of information has no place. Leaders and polluters will not inform. Therefore, though the odds may be dramatically against us (comfort over change), we could nevertheless try to inspire a movement of actions from the ground up, for each of us to collectively change some habits, that may actually gather so much momentum that people will start to care about what BIG energy hogs and polluters are doing, and BEGIN to speak out to them. New habits are difficult to start, but if everyone starts to really engage because the same messages are rippling out to the public globally by a team of people who are echoing what you and your collaborators have improvised, there is no telling how a critical mass of people with awareness and action and their heart into it, may start to make this grass roots message really move.

The idea is to instigate people to re-define their relationship to the planet and its life forms and inspire them to re-imagine a dramatically different relationship to all of life, in which humans act responsibly as guardians to the plants and creatures with whom we share the planet. Messages which convey the realization that our greatest treasure is the life that surrounds us, supports us and delights us on earth; containing inspirational guidelines as to how we can change our habits, to live in harmony with other life forms and feel their value; the natural cycles, beauty of flora and fauna and fertility of the earth. You could say I’m an idealist.

I’m primarily concerned with the loss of well, everything, all life with which we could live in harmony. Defenseless species of plants and animals lose habitats through the encroachment of humans, their residual noise, air and water pollution, chemical poisoning and the formidable elephant in the room, global warming, for which human behavior and industry are responsible. A trend which could collapse all systems on earth that have sustained life as we have known it. Given, Americans are the biggest energy abusers, without recognizing their contribution through the demands they put on having ease and comfort. By its nature, the capitalist formula is based on ever increasing profits, measuring success through the GDP, without factoring whatsoever, the health and well-being of all systems on the planet. This perception and motif has been perpetuated through the mendacity of those wishing to uphold it, in their allegiance to profit. We could actually shift our awareness to valuing deeply every single species as part of the labyrinth of life on this planet which we share. Effectually shifting from the notion of primacy of humans, to one valuing and being guardians to the sovereignty of all life.

I speak conversational German, French and Spanish, pretty close to fluent. I love to communicate. I’m presently available to relocate anywhere. I live minimally, acquire a bicycle wherever I live, have no dependents and am healthy, strong and resilient. I gained new perspectives quite different from how I was brought up in central Pennsylvania, though I’ve gathered quite different perceptions of the world through having lived in a variety of quite alternative communities (New York city, Washington D.C., Taos, New Mexico, San Francisco, California, Berlin, Germany where I lived for 7 years altogether, Paris and Montpellier, France where I lived last year for 7 months. I’m adaptable. I’m also a person who has all my life been able to walk up to strangers, approach people and begin conversations. There are plenty of other people who with the incentive to save the planet, would be happy to do the same. I have a strong appetite of curiosity and creative drive to communicate. I have to admit that many of my blogs and music need to be more concise to be more easily approachable. I’m working on delivering more elegant and simple message. I also think vlogs are the way to go, more powerful and compelling, with images and music for people who don’t have the time or patience to read.

My dream is that outspoken individuals and organizations like yourself would actually stretch across each of their own boundaries and work together to create a resoundingly clear and transparent message and movement. A message that moves people emotionally to act, because of how overwhelmingly obvious and compelling it is. And a message that is spread through teams of people who go out into the streets to talk with people and collect information from the public. Messages that are informative, humorous, and elicit community participation. I can help you to create this message, I can’t do it on my own. We can do it together.

Below are links to my blogs, music and book trailer. I am in search of the best fit.

I came upon this quote when I was writing an article in 2003 which I just re-located on my HD. This from an Adbusters article in March-April 2003 Issue, “our first problem is one of denial. (and that) our crisis is not fundamentally one of technology, but one of the mind, will and spirit.” The author wrote that our ” denial must be met with a world-wide ‘perestroika’, predicated on the admission of failure: the failure of economics, which became disconnected from life; the failure of our politics, which lost sight or the moral roots of our commonwealth; the failure of science, which lost sight of the essential wholeness of things; and the failure of all of us as moral beings, who allowed these things to happen because we did not love deeply and intelligently enough.”

People’s Climate March in nYc September 21st 2014 | Flood Wall Street

The People’s Climate March was timed with the United Nation’s Climate Summit 2014 in which dignitaries from around the world and President Obama responded to Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon’s invitation to talk about Global Warming. On the 21st of September, people from all over the world participated in climate marches in their own towns. It was the largest simultaneous Environmental March in history.

This shot below was zooming in to capture a drone hovering above the crowd. Small and moving with speed and precision, it was easy to miss. Perhaps it was monitoring for a journalist? Though much legislation will arrive regarding the rights and privacy demands that will ensue with the operation of drones, there are already some quite positive uses. This article about drones by Caitlin Kauffman  “Flying a Fine Line: Drones could be a boon for conservation – but first, they need to overcome their stigma”  in the Sept/Oct Sierra magazine points out. “Despite their reputation, though, small civilian drones like Hugo are making their way into a variety of eco-toolkits. Drone-mounted thermal cameras alert game wardens in Namibia to poachers stalking elephants and rhinos. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration flies tiny drones into the eyes of hurricanes to collect climate data and improve storm warnings, and scientists from southeastern universities equip them with sensors to track spilled oil in the Gulf of Mexico.”

No Wars to Defend Petro Dollar

There was plenty of media coverage. Huffington Post reports on the numbers around the world that marched, around 600,000 people worldwide.

The World Wildlife fund sent this to my inbox today Oct 7th, regarding the numbers who came out to support the Climate March and the fact that this is only the B E G I N N I N G!

Cree prophecy

“Only after the last tree has been cut down. Only after the last river has been poisoned. Only after the last fish has been caught. Only then will you find that money cannot be eaten.”

I march because overpopulation and human habits have wrought havoc on our environment. As this article by Damian Carrington in the Guardian indicates, “Earth has lost half of its wildlife in the past 40 years, says WWF. “The number of wild animals on Earth has halved in the past 40 years, according to a new analysis. Creatures across land, rivers and the seas are being decimated as humans kill them for food in unsustainable numbers, while polluting or destroying their habitats, the research by scientists at WWF and the Zoological Society of London found.”

Regarding the Living Planet Index (LPI), “We have all heard of the FTSE Financial Times (London) Stock Exchange 100 index, but we have missed the ultimate indicator, the falling trend of species and ecosystems in the world,” said Professor Jonathan Baillie, ZSL’s director of conservation. “If we get [our response] right, we will have a safe and sustainable way of life for the future.”

The Living Planet Index (LPI) reflects changes in the health of the planet’s ecosystems by tracking population trends of over 2,500 vertebrate species. Much as a stock market index tracks the value of a set of shares, the LPI calculates the average annual rate of change for species populations from 1970 to 2008, the latest date for which sufficient data are available. I wrote about the Gross Domestic Project (GDP) in a different light in an earlier blog: “GDP Gross Domestic Problem – Why the Measurement of Wealth Depends on a Healthy Environment”. https://digesthis.wordpress.com/2012/04/12/gross_domestic_problem_-why-measurement-of-wealth-depends-on-a-healthy-environment/

Let’s not even START to talk about the deleterious effects of the impact of fracking on groundwater. In an article written for the Rolling Stone, “The Big Fracking Bubble: The Scam Behind Aubrey McClendon’s Gas Boom“. Jeff Goodell states that “McClendon dominates America’s supply of natural gas the same way the Tea Party-financing Koch brothers control the nation’s pipelines and refineries.

The Climate March was organized by numerous global environmental organizations, of which these are a few: 350.org, Avaaz, GoFossilFree.org, the Center for Biological Diversity http://www.biologicaldiversity.org, Greenpeace.org and MoveOn.org.

World Wildlife Fund (WWF) was another of the groups demanding collective action; for people to join in the streets of New York city to demand world leaders meeting at the United Nations General Assembly, to turn-talk-into-action. your life is your life, don’t let it be clubbed into dank submission. be on the watch. there are ways out. there is light somewhere. it may not be much light but it beats the darkness. be on the watch. the gods will offer you chances. know them, take them. you can’t beat death but you can beat death in life, sometimes. and the more often you learn to do it, the more light there will be. your life is your life. know it while you have it. you are marvelous, the gods wait to delight in you.

Something Appearing out of Nothing

Sitting with a broken left clavicle after having had a harsh collision involving my body, acceleration, gravity and terra firma – while attempting to catch a disc in the end zone in an ultimate frisbee game – I’ve had the opportunity to slow down and have my life go into a bit of a slow mindful motion…or at least that’s what appears to be gently landing into my routine. I had been actively referencing aspects of this oil spill crisis and the conflicting images of Obama and what he has and hasn’t supported…on my facebook page http://www.facebook.com/carol.keiter
and decided to cross reference some of these here, along and with some inspiring words.

Quotations “A human being is a part of the whole called by us Universe, a part limited in time and space. One experiences one’s self, our thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical illusion of our consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.”
Albert Einstein

In a previous blog about my hitchhiking adventure, I incorporated this link.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6ehS_94hvo

The Indians mention that these holy crystal sculls of silica are able to store gigantic amounts of knowledge – a cosmic memory – enabling us to leave our prison of limited consciousness and open us up to new dimensions in space and time. It’s another angle of the concept which Einstein was talking about in this statement.

I find the contents of this note written on their 25th Anniversary Issue, by Eric Utne who founded Utne Reader, to be really encouraging. Especially reading through to the 2nd page, of his hopes for what can happen! with hope and love,
Carol

http://www.utne.com/Media/25-Years-and-Dreaming.aspx

I’ve just gathered various wall postings on my Facebook page over the last few hours/day, to repost here!

I was once again aghast when I heard that Obama was planning to open up legislation allowing oil companies to drill for oil in various oceans around the US – for the 1st time in 20 years. (The first time I was shocked was when he mentioned Afghanistan before he was even elected.) Drilling for oil in pristine waters just didn’t seem to follow or be congruent with what I thought Obama stands for. And I have been absolutely devastated and literally crying about what is happening in terms of the amounts of oil continually gushing into the gulf. I feel complete sorrow for all of the helpless wildlife, and sure, I know what it is to struggle for work too and sympathize with the people. We can employ a lot of people if we start researching and implementing renewable energy sources on a massive scale….there are a lot of things that can blossom from these disasters, such as gaining footholds in a completely new healthy direction; introducing more transparency, more open-source type concepts, tear down the borders separating people, find the core within all of us that we share, and respectfully live in harmony with all of life – including this planet. Sometimes it takes going in the wrong direction, to discern that it is a wrong direction, before we can make steps in the right one. Let’s stop letting apathy or delusions about money get in the way of life, of humanity, of human beingness and becoming…and have integrity to say what we know is right and let our voices be heard towards > building new paths and strengthening our hearts and minds in new directions. Life and love beyond borders.

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/stop_offshore_drilling/?rc=fb

and more! an inconvenient truth about the current ‘climate bill’
…”Outrageously, and at great danger to our economy and ecosystem, this bill provides for new offshore oil drilling…To hear their arguments, you’d think the bill adds important safeguards and limits to offshore drilling. But in reality, it significantly expands offshore drilling. Given that hundreds of thousands of gallons of oil are spewing into the Gulf of Mexico each day with no end in sight, there is no excuse for increasing offshore drilling with this bill.”

Guides to Living Longer, Happier Lives – Right Here, Right Now!

I am in the midst of trying to re-organize a lot of things in my life. I have to move, again. I am also in the process of looking for work, because right at the same time I was informed that I must find a new place to live, several of my income sources also simultaneously “dried up”, like a local well suddenly becoming contaminated. Thing is, I have been aware of my need to upgrade to a deeper, larger and more vibrant watering hole before this whole process started, and now have no choice. I’ve been from the start trying to remain calm, and not let these impediments get in the way of things that I’ve wanted to participate in. And then yesterday, in the process of contemplating what I’d like to do, and of thinking about happiness in general, I went on yet another google research whirlwind to inquire among other things, ” Where in the world, people might be happier?”

One study which incorporated economic stability into the picture, according to this necessary ‘bias’ of the Western World…came up with Denmark as being the place where people are the happiest in the World. A dreary, gloomy often cloud covered place, where people enjoy a high standard of living, and also where there are more balanced socialized perspectives in terms of employment. In other words, there appears to be less of a social pecking order pyramid in terms of some jobs having more prestige, and more of an overall appreciation of life over work, and the idea that sharing and communicating optimism on a daily basis to others in one’s community is valued over the type of job one has.

http://www.financialjesus.com/how-to-get-rich/top-10-happiest-countries/

My point is not that I’m considering moving to Denmark. My search continued, and somehow in my trajectory I came upon this link, labeled the Blue Zones, which are what researchers discovered and labeled as the areas in the World which correspond to where people have the highest longevity.

http://www.bluezones.com

And in all of the material that I was reading and listening to, it became clear, that happiness is not a place that I or anyone else can find necessarily in a particular geographical place. It has to do with healthy physical and emotional habits; a balanced diet, a regular amount of physical activity and motion. It has much more to do with attitude than anything else. Having a sense of purpose in one’s life, recognizing the awe of life itself, in whatever way one chooses to approach this grand mystery, surrounding oneself with friends and family and embracing the daily changes with optimism.

In my other searches on ‘where people laugh and smile the most on earth’, since they don’t appear to do so with any high frequency here in Germany where I currently reside, I started doing searches.

It comes down to the fact that humor and laughter is universal in its health benefits, and I recall from the years of Thanksgiving dinners among extended family members, that there was a great deal of humor and laughter around the table, and physical exercise afterwards.

This link gets into a more philosophical inquiry about ‘what laughter is, and why we laugh’. One of the most stunning facts is that babies start laughing in the first months and kids laugh at least twice as much as adults. So, laughter is innate, is contagious just like yawning….and is associated with playful and light-hearted attitudes.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3077386/

We all just need to be more playful, and take ourselves less seriously…in order to transmit good vibes to other people that will also ripple to others; the calming, healthier signals of slowing down, enjoying life and appreciating all of the delicate morsels that it has to offer.

http://www.helpguide.org/life/humor_laughter_health.htm

Note, I had to research this stuff yesterday to be reminded, to not ‘stress’ and to be optimistic, about the task that I have before me. At least now I know, that I don’t have to make a mad dash to set up house in another city/country/continent to be happy or healthy, but merely seek out and incorporate healthy physical and emotional activities into my routine, with humor and delight – sharing with family and friends!

And don’t forget that we’re not alone on this planet ‘-)
