Hopefully as people read this, they may be instigated to finally act, which would cause his title to shift dramatically towards success. 

…and since the US, Brazilian, Australian…governments are ignoring reality in favor of the business-as-usual paradigm of profit over, e v e r y t h i n g    a n d    e v e r y o n e    e l s e, there is no more clear reason to drop everything, strike for the climate globally, Friday, and continue striking. if only all the truckers, police, military, agriculture and gas industries… would somehow grasp this picture, listen and decide to work together. maybe Greta Thunberg will have a huge impact on world leaders at the climate summit. But what she realizes, is that leaders, as long as they only see through the veil of economic profits, will continue to DO NOTHING. Therefore    i t    i s   u p    t o    t h e    p e o p l e  to wake up and take action, for however long it takes, to demand and follow change.  Greta knows this, she came all the way over here to the US and then to Chili for climate talks with global leaders, but MORE IMPORTANTLY, TO RALLY THE PEOPLE TO GET THE FUCK OUT IN THE STREETS AND WAKE UP.

Bobbi Jean, the young Native American woman (featured in the photo with her arm raised) was raised in the Standing Rock community. She spoke of her experiences – walking and running – gathering people of all ages as they went from one to another community.

She said they made prayers with their feet.

She said that there were a lot of magical & spiritual events that happened along the way, among the different people and animals’ that joined in. For many days it rained, and yet when certain people spoke, suddenly the sun burst forth or a wind would woosh in. She knew that the ancestors were present with them in their journey. They walked to enlighten people about the fate of the land and all of the creatures, this sacred land, to money.They eventually landed in Washington D.C., which she said was a culture shock. She Lots of kids participated at different points who developed their own voice about the issue. Elders participated as well. The oil industry and the federal and state governments’ in the pocket of it, created all sorts of obstacles and their own narrative to events. Bobbi Jean continues to inspire and share the story.

This event was a panel discussion with Bobbi Jean Three Legs and Indigenous Water Protectors. Followed by screenings of Black Snake, a 360° virtual reality short film experience featuring citizens of Standing Rock, by Philip Sanchez ’05. It took place at Brown University, sponsored by Native American and Indigenous Studies at Brown, Native American Brown Alumni, and the Haffenreffer Museum of Anthropology.

I had tears in my eyes, resonating with what one of the elder Native American women near the end of the film said.

“The story of the Dakota Access Pipeline is a long and difficult one to tell. On its face, it is the story of thousands of Native Americans and their non-Native allies that gathered for months in 2016 to protest the pipeline. However, this is only a small part of a much larger issue. The pipeline brought to a head conflicts about disputed treaty lands, the historical treatment of Native Americans by the Federal Government and the changing relationship between the predominantly white towns of Bismarck / Mandan to the north and the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation to the south.”

The XL pipeline has different names depending on its location, which works as a mask to recognizing that it is one and the same black snake that is slithering through the land and sickening it’s waters.

Actions are happening all over the world

On Saturday May 14th, all over the world, a coordinated action to break free from fossil fuels will take place. These actions will take place at strategic locations where people can come together. The southwest central hub is Los Angeles, California. People will meet at the City Hall at 1pm, 200 N. Spring St.

I wish to join from my current location in Tucson, Arizona, however I don’t have a vehicle or disposable income. It’s a 7.5 hour drive along Interstate 10. Californians and people of the southwestern states will convene in L.A., home to the nation’s largest urban oil field in the United States—ground zero of California’s climate fight. Posting a ‘job/home/community relocation’ info ad for myself!

I, Carol Keiter, blogger, writer, musician, composer, environmental and nature enthusiast and animal activist need to relocate within weeks. I need to hone into> the right location, community and sources for work that will fulfill the job description which has evolved, as I’ve been writing this!

I realize that my job description is along the lines of broadcast journalism. The fact that I have a curiosity about many many subjects, the desire to travel and use my language skills, love of researching information, working with all sorts of digital media, interacting with people of myriad backgrounds and observing natural environments, and an interest in science and technology, with a joy in extracting and compiling information and then sharing it.

I am in search of a place to relocate, within not 6 months, but several weeks, as a start! My preference is to be based in a European city, where I can further develop and utilize my language skills (French, German, Spanish or Italian); where I can work together with a team making productions similar to what I’ve described as well as independently getting stories.

I’d like to focus on success stories about individual people and communities who have made a difference through their recognition and implementation of adopting better practices to safeguard their own environments and that of the animal habitats within their area. With a focus on the need to live interdependently and respectfully with other species; as the human species can act as caretakers of the planet and all creatures to celebrate this incredible biodiversity, not exploit it.

Within my challenge is the need to find housing, art or music cooperatives, live/work exchanges or just that perfect job I describe that will enable me to continue to do what I do best; observing, asking questions, writing and taking digital photos and sharing stories.

My goal > continuing along the lines of using my laptop computer for writing, photography, photoshop, sound recording, illustration (portrait art) and musical instrument skills (bass guitar and piano) & composition skills, and language skills to do work that involves > researching, compiling and exchanging information along the lines of technical/environmentally sustainable practices/renewable energy alternatives/habitat awareness and support for various species. All of this is relevant to the world’s current urgent need to organize campaigns to inform communities and support actions that employ and implement renewable energy systems in communities and DIY projects, awareness of how one’s own diet, transportation habits and actions reflect on the larger picture, the need for ocean cleanup, the need to wean ourselves from coal and oil and petroleum based energy resources and products to the awareness of animal rights and habitat preservation.

I wish to work with a team sharing enlightening information about what community success stories and how other communities could adopt similar practices and behaviors.

I wish to base myself in preferably a European metropolitan center to work with groups along these lines – where I can also develop and use my language skills, creativity, joy of interacting with divers peoples and groups – and a significant or equivalent amount of time traveling to areas which I wish to document and research> ideas and success stories revealing positive alternatives that can be adopted.

Does anyone have any suggestions or leads? Along the lines of Al Jazeera America’s ‘Techknow’, National Geographic and a plethora of other environmental organizations from NRDC to Greenpeace.

Bottom line: I need to make a choice of where to relocate within weeks, and am looking for leads, ideas, groups to work with and a place to land.

Any offers or advice? I have no income or savings. Hence, sending this first ‘job/home-base search letter’ out there so that more ideas may spring up regarding what part of the world to go to?

My skills and passions are for the most part, besides motion and travel – a.k.a ‘nomadbeatz’ – as an environmental activist/researcher/journalist/portrait artist/illustrator/musician/composer/teacher/lecturer. I could be persuaded to dip towards any to these: writing, illustration, music composition for film and screenwriting. Yep, they are all over the place, yet they all interconnect.

I am physically, mentally/emotionally and spiritually fit, resilient and strong. Conversant in French, German and Spanish in addition to my native English.

The politics of fear and consent through silence and non-action, are not part of my playbook.

We can do it, if we put our minds and hearts together and sing and dance as we work.

I was just exposed to this video Post moments ago, and it is exquisite in the story it tells.

I had viewed a two minute video “The Essence of Life“, a trailer of the Film “Beyond“, posted on Cryptik about a week ago. Something compelled me to hold onto it. I only really investigated the Cryptik site yesterday, perusing its postings.

Their prominent quote by Albert Einstein let me know why I had synchronistically kept this on file.

It was yesterday, 11/10/2014, that I discovered this movie – the subject of this blog. “The Greatest Story of Our Generation“. I believe that this information is essential to understand; that it should be mandatory viewing! I challenge myself and everyone; to listen, watch and respond with action. It resonates so completely with my heart, intellect and spirit and embraces so much of the content that I have been writing about, that I had tears rolling down my face as I listened to it.

“The Greatest Story of Our Generation” put out by “Films for Action”: A Learning Library for People Who Want to Change the World – is written by Andrew Dickson, directed by Louie Schwartzberg and produced by Lyn Davis Lear.

Narrated by Morgan Freeman (the sought after voice these days whose affect is one which invokes trust and respect) “The Greatest Story of Our Generation” is the story of the human journey at this critical moment in time. Of all the stories to belong to, this is the story to be a part of. Don’t watch it from the sidelines. Don’t wait for the experts to figure it out. Ask yourself: how can I become one of the weavers of the story? It’s a tapestry with 7 billion threads. What contribution do I want to make? On November the 18th, 2012 Bill McKibben who started 350.org, brought his United States DoTheMath tour to an end in Washington D.C. The tour included a presentation, prior to a demonstration circling the White House at its conclusion. McKibben spoke of the recklessness of the oil industry and the ecocide brought on through their “extreme energy” techniques.

I calendared the arrival of the tour to the East coast months ago, then signed up for the final day of the event in Washington D.C. McKibben talked to a capacity crowd at the Warner Theater in Washington prior to the March. The audience consisted of every age group; from people with babies in tow, to college students to retirees. He featured projections of his travels around the globe visiting the people of countries who are at higher risk due to global warming, for example low lying areas in India and Asia; pointing out that those most affected by climate change are the ones who have contributed to the phenomena the least.

He implicates the fossil fuel industry as the major culprits. They ravage the environment the most, specifically with the following extreme methods.

Deep Water Oil Drilling, which this link to an article in the New York Times indicates, “After a yearlong drilling moratorium, BP and other oil companies are intensifying their exploration and production in the gulf…and expanding into Cuban and Mexican waters…beyond most American controls.”

Fracking – Hydraulic fracturing which rapes, I mean reaps from the earth to extract natural gas. As this article in IVN Independent Voter Network describes, “The Price of Fracking: Earthquakes & Groundwater Contamination”. In addition, as this article in the Nation reveals, Fracking involves excessive contamination that causes farmers to become ill as well as livestock. “Exposed animals “are making their way into the food system, and it’s very worrisome to us,” Bamberger says. “They live in areas that have tested positive for air, water and soil contamination. Some of these chemicals could appear in milk and meat products made from these animals…No one doubts that fracking fluids have the potential to do serious harm. Theo Colborn, an environmental health analyst and former director of the World Wildlife Fund’s wildlife and contaminants program, identified 632 chemicals used in 
natural-gas production.”

The rally in Washington D.C. specifically focused on the destruction that will result if the Keystone XL Tar Sands continues and morphs into a continental pipeline construction to feed the energy needs of the U.S.

The picture above is from a National Geographic article “Canadian Oil Sands” describing this boom and its worth. Its worth to the oil industry is at a cost that will result in enormous irreparable environmental destruction.

Bill McKibben’s DoTheMath presentation consisted of a slideshow of places around the globe affected by global warming and a number of talks by various people. Among them was a representative of the indigenous Indian tribe in Canada whose sacred homeland and culture are being destroyed by their proximity to the tar sands pits. Reverend Lennox Yearwood Jr., president of the Hip Hop Caucus spoke of disinvesting in the fossil fuel industry. A video recorded message featured Desmond Tutu, the South African social rights activist, who was one of the first people to join 350.org at its inception. He, as well as a video message by the founder of GreenPeace, Kumi Naidoo, spoke of the fact that this is not merely an environmental issue, but a moral one. It is insanity.

Disinvestment in companies involved in “extreme energy” was the critical topic; fracking, tar sands, mountain top removal & deep water drilling. Each spoke of the need to “disinvest” in the Fossil Fuel Oil giants, just as the Western businesses had disinvested in the South African government, which was THE primary vehicle that finally ended apartheid.

Disinvestment means to encourage your bank, university, school, church – virtually any establishment – to stop investing in anything that has to do with the fossil fuel industry. Ironically, the industry gave lots of money to presidential candidates, and will seduce anyone who wants to be their spokesperson. “Fossil Fuel Industry Ads Dominate TV Campaign“. When these giants are no longer getting blanketed with funds, they can not continue to do what they are doing.

Ironically, on my trip I pulled out a Christian Science Monitor magazine that I’d brought with me in case I had the time to read, one of the first articles I came upon was talking about oil harvest and ecocide.

October 24th is the ‘Global Day of Climate Action’ organized by Bill McKibben, who’s behind 350.org.  350 ppm are the top level of particulates – carbon dioxide particles in parts per million – that can be tolerated in our atmosphere in order to reach a sustainable level, to make a dent along the global warming axis towards disaster.  We need to cap at this amount, to reverse the process, or attempt to slow it down.

The impetus of the voices around the world calling attention to this is to put forth to the attendees of the Copenhagen Climate Conference glaring ahead, the need to acknowledge the importance of making a coordinated worldwide effort to reduce the number of particles contaminating the environment to a sustainable level of 350ppm.

This will be the most widespread day of political global action in world history.  4,500 events have been planned in 177 countries.  McKibben mentioned in an interview with Amy Goodman of “Democracy Now”that the people of the United States “are the most addicted, and therefore most in denial” about the issue.
