Carol Keiter’s P o r t r a i t s – D r a w i n g s – P a i n t i n g s – P i c s

I just organized my Faber-Castell watercolor paintings that I’ve done over the last few years. This prompted me to update my  Collection and put it out in cyberspace.

I love doing portraits of people and animals which are penci,  charcoal and pastels.

New Beginnings | a workaway in Heuchlingen, Germany | December 2017

New Beginnings – I had to decide what I was going to do, upon returning from my 1.5 hours in India. So I sat in an office building alone in Darmstadt, 40 minutes driving from Frankfurt, Germany. This was complements of a guy whose office space it was, whom I met with his friends in Frankfurt right before Christmas. If I wouldn’t have been able to double bolt the lock

from inside, I wouldn’t have taken him up on the offer.

I went to the drawing board – not a person present in this office building (accommodating dozens of businesses and hundreds of employees) – where I sat alone – internet, lights, heat – sort of helping myself to use the communal kitchen. And via the internet I dreamed up and

calculated my next moves. Hitching to a workaway not far from Stuttgart. That’s when it occurred to me that my ex beau whom I knew in Berlin was not very far from my destination, so I had the chance to visit him as well.

Loads of Photos of my New Direction > hitching from Darmstadt, outside of Frankfurt where I stayed some days in someone’s office space during the Christmas holidays (where none of the hundreds of employees were present) then to Mössingen to visit an ex beau for New Year’s eve, then on hitching on to my first workaway in Heuchlingen, Germany.

To Joan with Love | Animals Watering Hole Africa

Here’s a new Faber Castell watercolor painting I did today for my sister Joan. I reveal the progression of the painting through taking photos at various periods of time. From a composite of 4 photographs, I did an initial small sketch, then replicated it on the sketch pad.

Japanese Garden & The Bridge | 2 versions Faber Castell Watercolor Art Progression | Providence, RI July ’18

I realized months later that I wish to reveal each of these paintings from the same view, separately, as the singular processes that each were.

When I returned to complete this one, I merely added some last details for shadows.

I decided right away to start a new one

By the time I finished this one, I decided to never sit there for a painting again. It was really close to the carousal, and the music of the carousal remained in my head – after sitting there this second 5 hours or so – later into the evening.

Freiburg Germany stranded in hitch and discovery of fabulous graffiti

On my hitch from Germany east of Stuttgart to southern France, I stopped in Freiburg, Germany. I arrived at night, and walked around checking out the town, the craftsmanship, the canals, the river. Had already heard about this town as a pretty cool place; progressive, liberal, open-minded population. Also that 100% of its energy is derived from renewable sources.

I intended to hitch out of the town early the next morning. No ‘daylight savings time’, I was shocked to see that the sun only rose at 8am. I started nevertheless at 6:30 or so in the darkness. Lots of traffic, no one picking me up.

Decided to purchase a coffee, then espresso, pretzel and the pastry. Went back to the road. Hours later, still not getting picked up, though this was the feeding point to the entrance to the autobahn several kilometers away.

Walked forward, no place for cars to stop. Asked someone if there was a gas station anywhere near this road, and was told there was one behind me, about a kilometer. Went there, still no rides. Saw some colorful graffiti, ran across the street to look at it. Then started walking down these stairs to a tunnel, and discovered loads of graffiti. I decided to myself that this was why I couldn’t leave town. I was supposed to discover this while getting stuck there.
I took pictures until my phone was almost out of space and battery.

Feeling very content with this discovery, and as the hours passed, now I was interacting more with people and just hitching from any random place along this road. I discovered the cool little mini person (puppet) swinging on a swing under the bridge. Chatted with a few people. Then a man approached, saying that he saw me that morning when he was on his way to work, and now was seeing me again after he returned from work. Having hitched himself, and knowing the difficulties of this particular town and the fact that this was mostly local traffic, he offered to drive me to a service station on the autobahn outside of town. I thanked him profusely. Turns out he had a lot of information to deliver. Said that Freiburg, years ago, was a town with a lot of squats, just like Berlin was a decade ago, but that in both towns, they’ve been cleared out, became rentals or just now not allowed to exist.

Freiburg, Germany graffiti

What I hadn’t known, is that where he dropped me off, now bypassed the place where I had mapped out that I was going to take as my route. It was a truck driver who said after I asked him and showed him my hand drawn map, that I had already passed that particular road, but that I could get off at such and such exit. It sounded like ‘German’ to me. I was inside starting to get worried, that I was going to be stuck here too, going way out of my way. But I consulted maps and found the names he spoke of.

Lots more story to tell, but I’ll just at least get these pictures out and describe more later. It was a fascinating hitchabout as far as insights into human nature and the whole gamut of types of people. It was also one in which I was stuck two nights in a row with no housing or food, and yet improvised and really enjoyed myself, even with the challenges.

Freiburg, Germany fantastic graffiti

Freiburg, Germany fantastic graffiti

I really do feel like a survivor, who can improvise and find means through creativity and resilience, to make things work, and even laugh about it. Of course, I’m not a refugee who has been forced to leave behind everything to seek a new life, nor someone who has just had my home burn down, ravaged by the exigencies of climate change. Just someone who has chosen to go on an adventure, who knows that I will bounce back into an accommodation I had planned – the workaway – host I was heading to in the south of France near Aix-en-Provence, from the host I left behind in central-southern Germany near Stuttgart.

The one I left behind was a nice learning experience, the one I’ve just surfed into is already exceeding my imagination and really fantastic. I feel very fortunate and appreciative.

Young adult educational eBook | A Seahorse Tale – A Spin on the Matter of Motion

I believe this eBook will build enthusiasm and intrigue for multiple subjects, It is a science reference book, cloaked in a science fantasy adventure; replete with real science and resplendent illustrations; with graphs, charts and links for further investigation.

A Seahorse Tale – A Spin on the Matter of Motion

Young adult educational eBook for public, private, magnet, charter, cyber, home-schools, autism spectrum, experiential and expeditionary learning.

Here’s the trailer: https://spinonmatter.carbonmade.com/projects/4800092

I just decided to post this letter of introduction which I’m sending to Charter Schools, to each of my blogs, since perhaps someone who’s involved in education, eBook marketing and publishing, with an affiliation with Charter Schools or knows-how in marketing an educational eBook, to provide me with advice or send someone my way!

It’s not finished, but I thought I’d start with the back-end, or front-end, getting it out there.

…I’m looking for the appropriate person/department (academic materials, material acquisition) to market my eBook, which I believe will be of interest to students as an auxiliary learning tool.

A Seahorse Tale – A Spin on the Matter of Motion Trailer

This science fantasy adventure involves a spiritual quest (no religious affiliation), full of art and science. The adventure involves the quest of a young woman and the characters she meets in her journey, into an upside-down world. Not really upside down, but a place affected by electromagnetism that has lower gravity levels as one climbs to this place. The people there, where the main character is journeying to, have a correspondingly intrinsic capacity of transparent thought. They are conscious of each others’ thoughts and consequently incapable of telling lies. Yet most of the story takes place as Adora journeys there – as there could be sequels!

Frankly, as of June 1st (almost two weeks since posting this), after editing and moving around information as well as researching and editing bibliography sources, the information below has been updated, and still is no longer current! Nevertheless, you get the gist of the contents! I’ve been working hard within a strict time limit – a really good thing.

HERE IS THE 2020 VERSION OF THE EDITED AND FINAL FIRST PAGE OF THE TOC

2021 Version, TOC, Table of Contents, Carol Keiter, Young Adult educational ebook, A Seahorse Tale, A Spin on the Matter of Motion

The approximately 150 page eBook (Completion end of June, 2017), is designed to be read from beginning to end, or to be read in segments. Almost every page introduces a particular subject; including graphs, charts and links to further investigation of that topic. The online Table of Contents and Bibliography allow the reader to choose from various educational subjects, ranging from biology, climatology, and geography to physics, These scientific topics of inquiry are introduced as they arise in the story; with the inference that these hypothetical events in a fantastical environment, could actually transpire.

Here are a few pages of the bibliography, also subject to change. I’m using google docs in order to also alphabetize the bibliography by subject.

Adora & Vitali: A Spin on the Matter of Motion has a plethora of art accompanying the science links, providing the reader with the capability to further investigate a topic. It is a colorful and refreshing learning tool for students and adults. The eBook is a stepping stone of intrigue for subsequent exploration into a multitude of scientific topics.
