George Monbiot, who consistently extends the risk to actually speak the truth about the environment, and specifically the political and financial obstacles that block change, just wrote this article. Don’t Look Now

Monbiot is bemused that we talk of climate change in such benign terms, when in fact we should be talking about climate breakdown or in my sounds climactic breaks.

George Monbiot writes that “The media avoids the subject of climate breakdown – to do otherwise is to bring the entire infrastructure of thought crashing down.

Batman hitting the earth, oil oozing out, climate destruction

Batman: Hitting the earth up like a Piñata, for profit.  In this case petroleum, with the resultant climate destruction.

The What The Health documentary film is about the collusion of industries in their misinformation of the public about diet and health, due to profit motives. The industries which use the land’s resources precipitously to maintain the beef, pork and dairy industries, are in fact the same industries which sponsor various American government health organizations, who subsequently toe the line of their sponsors, and withhold the truth. Instead they tout that beef and dairy are good, that there’s no conclusive evidence that diet has AnYThinG to do with health and dis ease, when in fact what you eat has EveRyThinG to do with health of humans, the obvious inhumane and devastating toll on the livestock and the health of the planet’s ecosystems and climate.

What The Health, documentary film, collusion of corporate profits with misinformation, diet and health

Here’s the trailer of the “What The Health” documentary with English Subtitles. Wow, are the filmmakers ever clearly laying out the truth! Medical Symbol, Caduceus

Medical Symbol Caduceus

It appears that a number of the top go-to organizations in the United States whose goal is to eradicate the population’s biggest medical threats – cancer and diabetes – are not following the Hippocratic Oath “In its original form, it requires a new physician to swear, by a number of healing gods, to uphold specific ethical standards.” Rather, they appear to be swayed by ‘corpocrisy’ (my made-up word combining corporate and hypocrisy).
I hadn’t included among the top medical threats ‘climate destruction’, of which the actions of the meat, fish, petroleum and pharmaceutical industries are antecedent and causal, with clear subsequent deleterious results.

hypocrisy definition, pretense of having a virtuous character or moral principles

As revealed from What the Health, The sponsors of the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association are the meat and dairy as well as pharmaceutical industries. Their message promotes misinformation about food and diet. Rather than finding the cause of the diseases they purport they wish to cure,  they are towing the line of their sponsors. In our consumer oriented capitalism paradigm where corporate profit-driven motives rule, buying = profit. Consumer purchasing is the motif which bleeds of hypocrisy. As What the Health discloses, the biggest sponsors of several American health organizations are the very industries that most impact the climate, and the health of population. These meat and dairy industries sway their message dramatically away from the truth about diet, with the intent to mislead the public.

The sponsors of the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association are the meat and dairy as well as pharmaceutical industries. Their message promotes misinformation about food and diet, for profit motives rather than finding the cause of the disease and curing it.

The What The Health documentary drives at how an entire population is mislead, by the health organizations themselves, in collusion with the government and the meat and derry industries. The filmmakers in their relentless research, ultimately uncover that the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association and the American Diabetes Association promote ‘diets’ on their websites which feature the very foods that cause the diseases which they purport their aim is to cure. As they press further, they discover that the biggest sponsors for these top government health agencies are the industries selling the food, that causes the very illness they aim to study. And the recipes they display on their websites espouse what will profit their sponsors.

The role of the pharmaceutical industry, which reaps in trillions of dollars, is not to eradicate or prevent the illness, but to treat the symptoms with and endless cocktail of pills. These little fixes keep the patients’ sick enough, to continue to adhere to taking their prescribed medications.

The messages of the medical societies who toe the line of their sponsors, the – meat, derry and pharmaceutical industries – assure continued profits for doctors, the healthcare profession, hospitals and the cattle, pig, fish and agricultural industries which support these as well as the pharmaceutical companies who bank on illness, not health.

Among the facts the film discloses, is the risks of processed meat and further on dairy, linked to cancer and diabetes.

The film is a sequel to “Cowspiracy”, which was created by the same people; filmmaker Kip Andersen and videographer Keegan Kuhn. With the backing of producer Joaquin Phoenix, this documentary allows the viewer to penetrate a number of degrees further into the looking glass.

Cowspiracy points out the caustic environmental effects of the agricultural feedstock, livestock and dairy industries. “The amount of water, land and fuel used for differing diets varies greatly…Taking into consideration that 1lb of beef requires upwards of 2500 gallons of water to produce compared to only 25 gallons for 1lb of wheat, the water footprint of a person consuming a high meat diet could be 100x greater than that of a person consuming only plant foods.”

conspiracy definition

We’ve perhaps overused the word conspiracy to the point that it becomes a benign term referring to ideas that should be dismissed because they are awash in backwash and hogwash. However, when looking at its true definition, conspiracy refers to a “treacherous or surreptitious plan formulated in secret by two or more persons”.

People who are not doing what they say, or saying what they mean.

A number of years ago I jumped out of my seat with excitement when an in-depth news reporting tv show “60 Minutes”, featured a story about Tulane University as the first medical school in the United States to offer mandatory cooking classes for first year medical students. Recognizing that good nutrition and diet is absolutely relevant to health, they figured that teaching medical students about food, nutrition and cooking, will allow them to authentically educate and inform their patients.

Former Vice President Al Gore attempted to educate the public 20 + years ago with his documentary entitled the Inconvenient Truth. Post the COP21 in Paris and attempts to reach an accord about the Climate, he released more recently, An Inconvenient Sequel.

His sequel just came out.

Many, many social, environmental and political activist groups along with world environmental and animal organizations continually use their talents and research to inform the public. What we need now are a buildup of CCC’s, Climate Crisis Cooperatives. People working together in all different capacities to grow local, buy local, and work towards renewable energy and transport.

Changing one’s diet away from ingesting meat and dairy with its inherent carcinogenic properties, can effectively reduce weight, diminish fat levels in the blood (lower cholesterol) and give people the chance to reduce to completely alleviate the need to take any pill at all.

Tulane University proactively paved the path of culinary medicine, “Scalpel or spatula? Medical students have new required cooking course

The subject of Culinary Medicine has since been evolving.

Other schools have since followed. Culinary Medicine: Teaching the importance of nutrition in medical school Wow, this is an article about Penn State University jointly with the Hershey Medical Center, which are in the vicinity of my home town in Pennsylvania, cool.

As mentioned in a former blog, https://digesthis.wordpress.com/2015/10/27/health-stretching-exercising-the-body-and-mind-farmacy/, a medical doctor, Dr. Weiss, stopped his practice to create a ‘farmacy’ cooperative in the state of New Jersey.

In other words, the healthiest way to go by far, is to eat a vegetarian, and particularly vegan diet (meat minus dairy). This in itself will clear up a person’s ‘system’ so that they go to the source of the problem (the inflammation coming from eating the wrong stuff (meat and dairy) and then not having to take a cocktail of pills, which never go after the source, but sort of stabilize the illness, and payments, indefinitely.

The best advice that keeps reappearing, is to continue to think globally and act locally. The more people use their own hands, words and mouths to grow locally and buy locally, and educate themselves through actively engaging in experimental actions and changing their diets and habits towards healthy ones, the more we will adaptively change our lives to exist in harmony with our earth and its creatures.

Democracy is Dying and it’s Startling How Few are Worried Paul Mason

I have been in France just under a month. I found out not even two hours ago through a conversation on skype with my sister who lives in England and France, that during the time we were back in the United States of Apathy, that ICE (i hadn’t know what this was, i thought ICE was simply In Case of Emergency) However I learned from my sister today about the other version. (ICE) Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

I hadn’t known what ICE meant, I had to google it. http://www.newsweek.com/immigration-immigration-and-customs-enforcement-ice-donald-trump-628896

ICE had come into the town of Lebanon, PA into a catholic church on a Sunday, and rounded up dozens of people, probably mostly men, of darker skin, and packed them into a van to take to another town to sit in jail, awaiting trial, perhaps a 1 or 2 year wait.

While visiting the USA just a month ago, my sister befriended a guy from El Salvador who stayed in the motel room next to her. He’s been in the USA for 25 years, has a green card and has several kids and a wife in Virginia. Presently he’s been in central Pennsylvania working in construction to support his family. He was one of the people rounded up and loaded into this van. My sister attempted to stay with him, holding his hand, went into the van, and the police officer warned her with a tone of reproach that she better get the hell out of there if she knows what’s good for her.

The El Salvadoran gave my sister his phone and the number of his wife to call in VA. My sister said that his wife was screaming when she heard the news. Her life support money-earner for herself and her kids, disposed of.

I knew nothing of this. I was just reading headlines last night about 500 people in Turkey under questioning or worse, for attempting to overthrow a dictator. I know nothing of this Turkey official and hadn’t read the story yet.

Nearly 500 in court Turkey Coup Attempt 2016 CNN

Yet I thought to myself, can not the world step in and change this situation? That was before I knew what was happening in the neighboring town while I was sleeping on a Sunday morning. WTF.

What can we do? Sit back, crack open a beer and hang out with friends, watch a TV show, get ready to arrange the schedule of picking up the kids from their practice…..when before our eyes a military dictatorship fascist embarrassment of a President is enforcing this sweep of people across the country who have been living and working here, taking jobs that Americans haven’t wanted, and who were brought here to do the dirty jobs that help our system to run efficiently, are suddenly afraid to leave their homes to go to the grocery store?

Stop Swooning over Justin Trudeau Climate Disaster Bill McKibben

McKibben writes for the Guardian, “Yes, 173bn barrels is indeed the estimate for recoverable oil in the tar sands. So let’s do some math. If Canada digs up that oil and sells it to people to burn, it will produce, according to the math whizzes at Oil Change International, 30% of the carbon necessary to take us past the 1.5C target that Canada helped set in Paris.

That is to say, Canada, which represents one half of 1% of the planet’s population, is claiming the right to sell the oil that will use up a third of the earth’s remaining carbon budget. Trump is a creep and a danger and unpleasant to look at, but at least he’s not a stunning hypocrite.”

Out of Wreckage, A New Politics, Age of Crisis, George Monbiot

Out of the Wreckage A New Politics for an Age of Crisis George Monbiot

Monbiot writes, “A toxic ideology rules the world – of extreme competition and individualism. It misrepresents human nature, destroying hope and common purpose. Only a positive vision can replace it, a new story that re-engages people in politics and lights a path to a better world.”

What are we going to do?

Immigrants from Syria and other parts of the world, war/climate immigrants are escaping deplorable situations to come to the West, which has been living amply, to be treated with hostility and turned away with barbwire. Black market money to stuff people on rickety over-loaded boats, taking peoples’ life savings, to flee situations, only to find that the rest of the world is not helping to organize their safe transport.

This is very, very wrong. We can use the money from the enormous profits from banks, international corporations who make millions and billions in profit, to set up communities, and renewable energy enterprises to re-esatablish safe havens.

This is not right. We can’t read news and do nothing like it isn’t our problem. In some countries people are having 12 to 16 babies. A large part of the problem of GLOBAL WARMING/CLIMATE CHANGE IS due to over-population. We are sucking up the soil, destroying habitats of other animals who have a right to life.

Humans need to be accountable.

We need to be accountable for what is happening ALL OVER THE WORLD.

We Are Humanity Film, Jarawa documentary

We Are Humanity Film Jarawa documentary

We need to intercept. I’m sorry, but we need to educate and infiltrate, not remain passive, saying it’s not my problem. Not my problem if some people are cruel to other humans or animals or their actions are knowingly or unknowingly destroying the habitat and polluting some creatures’ environment.

I don’t think any living being can just sit back and let all this happen without having a conscience and wanting to help.

I don’t know where to begin, except for expressing this. I think the world needs leaders who will actually step in and shut Trump and other dictators down. People can divest – take their money out of banks and institutions that support dirty energy and dirty politics. There are numerous ways that people working together could SHUT DOWN OPERATIONS AS THEY ARE through organized actions like; those working in public transportation or truck drivers to not work for a day, or three…We can all work together, educate one another, demand new structures and create them together, IMMEDIATELY.

There are plenty of people with the wisdom and insights and contacts to know how to lead and guide a worldwide REVOLUTION. Not a violent one, a movement with people stepping out of their routines and giving a little time and effort and action to make their voice heard. We can’t let more dictators destroy peoples lives. We can’t let peoples religious beliefs just allow people to pop out 13 babies and pretend that it’s okay. We live in one world, one with limited resources. I refuse to just take on business as usual, and pretend that it’s okay for Mr. Orangehead Chump to push his grey suits around and whimsical notions of what he thinks needs to happen. It’s time for the fucking world intelligence, artists, teachers, scientists and leaders to step in. I still have to read about what’s happening in Turkey, or Venezuela, because I can’t keep up with all of it, but it just IS NOT OKAY ANYMORE, to think that “It’s not here next to me in my community, so it’s not my problem.” IT IS ALL OF OUR PROBLEM. WE NEED LEADERS WHO CAN STEP IN AND INTERCEPT, AGENCIES TO EDUCATE, GUIDE.

I thank all of the environmental, social, ecological groups who serve as watch dogs and educate the rest of us, but somehow, i think something much more brilliant has to take place to begin lighting up the whole world to working together. If we are the people – in a Democracy – choosing our leaders, then we should have the military industrial complex working with us, not in militarized suits, against us.

Eco-Apocolypse | Nothing to See Here by George Monbiot | OuTrop Orangutan Tropical Peatland Project

I didn’t know that there have been continued wildfires in Indonesia, many of them triggered by humans, specifically choreographed by the lumber and palm oil industries. They are intent to clear the tropical rainforests, regardless of the damage caused to the local inhabitants, the already endangered biodiversity there and the environment in general. Why is this second largest rain forest which in itself is a jewel, being destroyed? The modern global economic model, profit.

I learned about this, reading the article “The Eco-Apocalypse in Indonesia That No One is Talking About
which impresses me terrifically, because of the piercing insights and honesty of the writer, George Monbiot. It was reprinted on the site The Mind Unleashed, sourced from George Monbiot’s blog, “Nothing to See Here
30th October 2015, in which he states “In the greatest environmental disaster of the 21st Century (so far), Indonesia has been blotted out by smoke. And the media.”

Monbiot writes, “In the greatest environmental disaster of the 21st Century (so far), Indonesia has been blotted out by smoke. And the media…I’ve often wondered how the media would respond when eco-apocalypse struck. I pictured the news programmes producing brief, sensational reports, while failing to explain why it was happening or how it might be stopped. Then they would ask their financial correspondents how the disaster affected share prices, before turning to the sport. As you can probably tell, I don’t have an ocean of faith in the industry for which I work.”

“What I did not expect was that they would ignore it.”

Says Monbiot, “Those who commit crimes against humanity don’t hesitate to commit crimes against nature. Though Joko Widodo seems to want to stop the burning, his reach is limited. His government’s policies are contradictory: among them are new subsidies for palm oil production that make further burning almost inevitable. Some plantation companies, prompted by their customers, have promised to stop destroying the rainforest. Government officials have responded angrily, arguing that such restraint impedes the country’s development. That smoke blotting out the nation, which has already cost it some $30 billion? That, apparently, is development.”

The media makes a collective non-decision to treat this catastrophe as a non-issue, and we all carry on as if it’s not happening.

“At the climate summit in Paris in December, the media, trapped within the intergovernmental bubble of abstract diplomacy and manufactured drama, will cover the negotiations almost without reference to what is happening elsewhere. The talks will be removed to a realm with which we have no moral contact. And, when the circus moves on, the silence will resume. Is there any other industry that serves its customers so badly?

Our leverage is weak, but there are some things we can do. Some companies using palm oil have made visible efforts to reform their supply chains; but others seem to move slowly and opaquely. Starbucks, PepsiCo, Kraft Heinz and Unilever are examples. Don’t buy their products until they change.”

4 Ways to Stop Indonesia’s Forest Fires
by Bustar Maitar November 1, 2015

This article was originally published by Greenpeace International.
It’s been labelled a “crime against humanity,” the “biggest environmental crime of the 21st century,” and most certainly the “worst climate crisis in the world right now.”

1. Just Stop Clearing Forests Already

Fact: stopping forest destruction is one of the easiest and most cost effective ways to prevent catastrophic climate change. It’s estimated that this year’s haze will cost Indonesia’s economy $14 billion.

2. Re-flood, Repair, Regenerate

Re-flooding and implementing other water management measures in critical peatland areas can sharply reduce fire risks — a solution Greenpeace has proposed for years.

3. We Know What You Did Last Summer, and We Have the Maps to Prove It

Greenpeace researchers looked at 112,000 fire hotspots recorded from August 1 to October 26, 2015, which showed that nearly 40 percent of fires had occurred inside mapped concessions: land granted by the Indonesian government to companies for logging or plantation development.

4. Fight Fire by Working Together

The only way to stop these fires is to stop deforestation. Greenpeace is calling for palm oil and paper companies to join forces and enforce a total ban on forest clearance and peatland development in Indonesia. Companies could make this happen. After all, if corporations have the ability to destroy the world’s forests, they also have the power to help save them.
Want to help #StoptheHaze once and for all? Take action today.

“Local fire-fighting teams in Borneo are on high alert, as drought grips the region and fires destroy orangutan forest habitat. Funds are urgently needed to combat the flames.”
